Lazy J Bar Ranch - 15th Annual Goat Extravaganza [4/26/25]

A Sincere Welcome from Boers by Hobby – proud consignors to the 15th Lazy J Boer Goat Extravaganza Did You Know? Collectively Bill and Sue have been building pedigrees for over 100 years! Yikes that’s a lot, but we have seriously made every mating count. We have operated numbers up to 450 head during the peak inventory at Boers by Hobby. Our hobby is genetics. Following pedigrees, seeing what works, never limiting our vision for a narrow emphasis of any of the purposes of the beautiful Boer goat. Starting with three goats in 2001, we’ve adapted to the industry changes while having fun discussing these changes with so many breeders across the nation and world. We believe in utilizing the genetic nature with their browsing/foraging qualities at our pasture/forage-based ranch, nestled in the Central Valley of California until last November, when we moved to Sue’s family farm in Wilton, Iowa. Learning from our cattle industry experiences, going out and seeing OTHER genetics is the fastest way to make improvements… We have put on thousands of miles across the U.S delivering and viewing breeding pro¬grams. We have found multiple breed favorites beginning at Don Smith & Friends Tollie & Terry (DSM, PPW, and TLB). We established important BBH foundation genetics including DSM Tobe (Tobias x Kaptein), DSM Chakatta (Tsjaka x SA Studded), Wobbles, TLB Ripper through his son Snort, and more. Admiring multiple stud bucks at Bosque Valley, Crede Garriot introduced Bill to “Goose It” (Grey Goose x Bingo’s dam x Cat in the Hat x Hot Commodity). This long meatball caught Bill’s attention for achieving that next level of hard muscle to add to our BBH herd. The result of this semen purchase is the one and only BBH wether-maker: Hobby Take Flight F1640 (10714837)! We have now followed the Boer Goat Market and are offering pedigreed bucks and does that will win in the wether and wether dam circles! Most recently, our Trump x Raspberry full blood doe was Reserve Overall Champion at the Willoughby Midwest Elite Show, mostly wether genetics! Our consigned animals from Boers by Hobby still reflect that balance between wether style and original South African genetics. The COLOR piece of BBH basically started at yet another sale where Tollie Jordan was dispersing his U.S. herd. ANN 7B268 WILDCHERRY was a full red TLB Jack (full brother to Ripper) son out of Classic Warrior lines and doubled up Chakatta. WildCherry jumpstarted our herd into the color industry with paints and reds, and later we identified that he also carries the dapple gene! So many greats including Yabukova, Ruddy, Navajo, Major, Roan, Smokin Spots, Andretti, and Scarecrow are just a few that have made up the balanced genetic equation of our color program. You will notice that the traditional sires are always kept up close in our color pedigrees for multiple reasons. Look for multiple colored genetics representing the same balanced mating protocol we use for our traditionals. Masterpiece (Ruger x Asteroid by Scarecrow, a King Pin son x our famed Cadillac Jack Star Dancer donor doe.) We have over 24 years of sales to breeders that include us for their next generation as evidenced in these sale pedigrees. From East to West and Northern to Southern border states, we have added genetic influence with our goats. We enjoy discussing pedigrees with Stephanie Jung, and she will attest that THOUSANDS of hours have been spent discussing the next step to that next GREAT one. If you have questions regarding genetics, matings, herd management, nutrition, health, and more, we are more than open to help! Let’s keep perpetuating this great breed and meat goat industry in general here in the States. We invite you to join the Lazy J / Boers by Hobby team! If your interest is in wethers, full bloods, percentages, or just raising great goats that you enjoy, review the Lazy J Boer Goat Extravaganza lineup and “story” we have created for your consideration!
