WHAT MAKES A HERO?

Keep an Eye outThis April

Over 20 years ago, Marvel employees dedicated April 28 to the superheroes of its universe (and others). April is a fitting month considering one of the first superhero comics was published in April 1938. “Action Comics 1” kicked off the genre and created one of the most recognizable characters of all time — Superman.

Since then, Marvel and DC Comics have made homes for these characters in graphic novels, on TV, and in movies. But what exactly turns an ordinary person into a superhero? Heroes usually have a few characteristics in common. 3 CHARACTERISTICS OF A SUPERHERO: 1.They Face and Overcome Obstacles AlongTheir Journey Spiderman learns how to use his newfound powers and stumbles along the way. Batman experiences the death of his parents and other grueling trials to reinvent himself.

Jean Gray becomes the Phoenix. Rogue discovers the power she detested can be used for good. Superheroes burst through obstacles that often involve crucial choices that direct their paths, and they come out stronger on the other side. and Superman, Green Goblin and Spiderman, Loki and Thor, Magneto and the X-Men, Killmonger and Black Panther: you see this theme throughout superhero stories. A superhero’s nemesis often has similar skills or powers to the superhero but chooses to use them for different purposes. Which brings us to ... 2.They Have a Nemesis Who ChallengesThem Lex Luthor

3.They Fight for Justice Superheroes typically fight in the name of justice. It might be protecting the citizens of a vulnerable community, ridding the world of a nefarious presence, or some other noble cause. Of course, National Superhero Day isn’t just about the fantastic fictional superheroes who grace the pages of graphic novels. It’s also about our real life, everyday superheroes: parents, teachers, a caring nurse or doctor, service women and men, and anyone else who puts forth heroic efforts for others. On April 28, take a moment to thank all the heroes around you.
