THE FOUNDATION: 40 YEARS OF FLORAL AND FLAVOR The journey began in 1985 when Susie, alongside her father, Rex, and mother, Peggy, founded Heaven Scent Flowers Inc. What started in the remodeled "Old 41" building quickly grew under Susie’s leadership. As the owner, she didn’t just sell flower arrangements; she curated the backdrop for the community’s most significant milestones—from births, birthdays, proms, weddings and anniversaries to final farewells. As the town continued to grow, Susie & her husband, Jim, recognized a need in the downtown corridor. In January 2009, they opened For Heaven Shakes Ice Cream, adding a second, joy-filled destination to the neighborhood. Now celebrating its 17th year, the ice cream shop has become a beloved gathering place, serving up sweet treats and smiles to locals and visitors alike. COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP, AWARDS & LEGACY For more than 40 years, Susie helped shape the heart of downtown, playing a vital role in strengthening the local business community. She is a founding member of the Bonita Springs Downtown Business Alliance and currently serves as its secretary, helping foster collaboration, growth and a vibrant downtown district. Under Susie’s direction, Heaven Scent Flowers has been voted Bonita’s Best Florist for 21 consecutive years and recognized as Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year. Her commitment to professional excellence has also earned national industry respect, including membership in The Flower Clique—an exclusive, invitation-only organization of top-tier florists—the Society of American Florists, and consistent Top 500 Teleflora status for more than four decades. Throughout her career, Susie has remained deeply committed to giving back to the community that has supported her family for decades. Her businesses have partnered with numerous non- profit organizations donating time, ice cream and floral designs to support fundraisers, galas and memorial events. However, her true accolade is her enduring presence in Bonita Springs as a cornerstone of the downtown business revival. Today, Susie Sayger remains a symbol of the "shop local" spirit, proving that with enough heart, a small-town business can leave a legendary footprint.
