F or th e first time in four dec- ades, this year’s Goya Award for the best Spanish film was shared by two titles. Both stories, which delighted Spanish critics and audiences alike, will have their pre- miere screenings for the Belgrade audience at this year’s Spanish Me- ter film festival. Organised by the Cervantes In- stitute, from 28 th May to 4 th June this film festival brings the most in- teresting recent film productions. This year’s 17 th edition will open with the Arantxa Echevarría film La infiltrada (Undercover), a tense thriller that follows a young police- woman who spent eight years un- dercover, infiltrating the ranks of Basque terrorist organisation ETA. The film El 47 (The 47), directed by Marcel Barrena, is also based on ac- tual events and follows a bus driver who decides to take matters into his own hands after the local authori- ties decide that the number 47 bus line cannot run to Barcelona’s poor- er suburbs. The Belgrade audience is awaited by another true story, which is this time the creative responsibility of director Icíar Bollaín. Her film Soy Nevenka (I am Nevenka) deals with the case of Nevenka Fernández, the first Spanish woman to win a sexual harassment court case against a po- litical official in Spain. Fans of the original script can thank filmmak- er and screenwriter Dani de la Or- den, who won the Goya Award for the film Casa en llamas (A House on Fire). This year’s festival will also pro- vide premiere screenings of numer- ous Latin American films. A special section will also comprise films star- ring famous Spanish actress Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, who received this year’s Goya Honorary Award for lifetime achievement. The audience will thus be able to remind them- selves of some of the iconic roles that she achieved together with greats of directing like Bigas Luna or Vi- cente Aranda. All details regarding screening times, tickets and loca- tions are available on the festival’s official website: spanskimetar.rs.
