B elgrade’s Guitar Art Festi- val has long since surpassed the limits of classical guitar and exclusively professional audiences, having carefully “built” a fanbase each year, with a pro- gramme that represents the highest ar- tistic expressions of classical, flamenco, fado and jazz music... One of Belgrade’s most significant happenings, it will this year take place for the 26 th time from 14 th to 18 th May and will welcome 70 of- ficial guests from 15 countries. Over the course of the festival’s five days, as many as 12 concerts of classical, jazz, ethnic and rock music will be held at multiple locations across the Serbian capital. Following three sold-out concerts, Sto- chelo, Nonnie and Nous’che, found- ers of legendary Dutch jazz band the Rosenberg Trio, arrive in Belgrade with an expanded line-up that includes sing- er Johnny Rosenberg and new gui- tar star Mozes Rosenberg. La familia Rosenberg will perform at the open- ing ceremony of the GAF on 14 th May in Kolarac Foundation’s Great Hall. The second day has been reserved for three concerts of classical music in the hall of the Belgrade Philharmonic, while the world’s best tamburitza player, Branko Bako Jovanović, will perform on the Great Stage of the National The- atre in Belgrade on 16 th May. Encour- aged by the great results of last year’s record-breaking concert on Republic Square, which brought together a thou- sand guitarists, the festival has estab- lished its new activity in the form of Belgrade Guitar Day, which will take place on 18 th May at Kalemegdan For-

proširenim instrumentalnim i vo- kalnim doprinosom Mozesa i Džo- nija. Rozenber- govi dele veliku strast prema gi- tarskoj muzici i sviraju „swinging gypsy jazz“ u stilu njihovog heroja i inspiracije Đanga Renarta.

tress, on the plateau near the Victor monument, and will form part of the festival’s final programme. But let’s return to the top stars of this year’s edition of the festival. The Rosenberg Trio is set to arrive with ad- ditional instrumental and vocal sup- port from family members Mozes and Johnny. One of the most impres- sive contemporary jazz ensembles is preparing a special setlist for the Bel- grade concert. Alongside popular jazz, swing and original compositions, the audience will also have an opportuni- ty to hear standards from the Ameri- can songbook (including Frank Sina- tra). The Rosenberg family shares a great passion for guitar music and plays “swinging gypsy jazz” in the style of their hero and inspiration, Django Re- inhardt. Attendees have a chance to hear a com- bination of technical brilliance, heart- felt acoustic sounds and unbelieva- ble musical chemistry. Their concerts are highly energised and filled with improvisation. They have performed all over the world, at the biggest fes- tivals, in the best halls, and together with many greats, while they have al- so served as a support act to the likes of Shirley Bassey, Randy Crawford and Luciano Pavarotti. They have represent- ed the very essence of jazz for more than 25 years. Stochelo Rosenberg is considered as being among the world’s best guitarists, thanks to his combina- tion of virtuosity and emotion with im- peccable technique, great elegance and unique vibrato. Many consider that he has thus almost emulated the virtuosi- ty of his idol Django...
