SDA continued such thing. They teach that when the wicked die, the soul immediate ly falls asleep. Concerning the dead, we are told that at death the whole person goes to the grave, and “while asleep in the tomb the child of God knows nothing” (page 523). Since when a person dies he loses con sciousness immediately, he cannot suffer. Since he is not raised until the judgment at the great white throne, the suffering would have to follow this resurrection. But the SDAs deny this flatly. Here are sev eral quotations: “ A ll sinners will he punished with eternal death, but eventual ex tinction can hardly be conceived of as graduated punishment” (page 498). “ T h en fr om the great white throne, the sentence of doom is pro nounced upon the wicked. And the sentence is followed by immediate execution” (page 506). “ Neither evil angels nor wicked men are now receiving final pun ishment. Such punishments are still future” (page 535). “ The drama of the ages ends in Satan’s final and irrevocable over throw and his utter extinction as well as those who follow him when fire comes down from heaven and devours him (Rev. 2 0 :9 )” (page 506). So when SDAs say that they do make room for a period of conscious torment in hell before annihilation, they mean nothing of the sort. There is no room in their theology
