along this morning to tell us how taffy is made. We will not have time to make it, but we can learn how it should be made. Here is the recipe. It reads, “ Four cups of sugar, two cups of water, and four tablespoonfuls of vinegar. Heat to 265-270 degrees, or to the crack stage in cold water. Pour on buttered plates, put a few drops of vanilla on the candy and pull when cool enough.” That sounds good, doesn’t it? Would you like to have some? Do you think it is necessary to follow the recipe exactly? We might be able to leave out the sugar or the vinegar.

trainees opportunity to confirm, their missionary call.

“No, it would not be good if we did,” you say. You are right. If you want to make good candy, you must follow the recipe exactly. The Bible is God’s Recipe Book for many things. In 2 Chronicles 15:3,4 we read, “Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law. But when they in their trouble did turn unto the Lord God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.” People always get into trouble when they turn away from the Lord and His Word, but it is wonderful to know that when they turn from their sins and turn to the Lord, He always helps them. The Bible is God’s Recipe Book for salvation. Many people do not receive salvation because they do not follow God’s recipe. Christ tells us that he came to call sinners to repentance. He said, “But except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). This is the first thing people need to do to receive salvation. The next is to believe on Christ as the One who died for our sins. The Philippian jailer was told, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved . . .” (Acts 16:31). The third thing to be done is to receive Him. “ But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God” (John 1:12). Let us again notice the things which are mentioned in God’s recipe for salvation: repent, believe, receive, confess. If we want God to give us salvation from sin, we must follow His instructions.
