From the President’s Desk
ALOHA E OUTRIGGER CANOE CLUB MEMBERS, We are excited to celebrate the many enhancements at the Club—from our newly updated parking structure and refreshed landscaping to the zhuzhed-up Logo Shop, revamped website, expanded online store, evolving menus, new reciprocal clubs, strengthened community engagement, and growing list of athletic, food and beverage, and other experiential offerings for members young and more mature.
This year’s strategic planning process recognized the many recent improvements to our physical campus, athletics programs, membership pipeline and community outreach. We also identified ongoing opportunities around our lease, facilities, environmental factors, and technology. Two new Strategic Goals, focusing on Facilities/Campus and Risk Management, were added to our existing areas of Culture, Operations, Membership, Athletics, Finance and Governance & Planning. As the Budget Committee finalizes the 2025 budget, guided by our annually updated Strategic Plan, our committees are busy finishing the year strong and preparing for further initiatives in 2025. Looking toward the future, I am incredibly optimistic. The dedication of our members, volunteers, and staff continues to shine, propelling us forward. I wish you a wonderful holiday season, and best wishes for a healthy, happy, and productive 2025. As you may be considering some New Year’s resolutions, consider how Outrigger Canoe Club can support your aspirations.
Reflecting on this year, I’m filled with pride in our achievements. Mahalo to everyone who has contributed to our successful year! “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there,” Lewis Carroll once said in “Alice in Wonderland.” Fortunately, we know where we’re headed!
This summer and early fall, the Board, Committee Chairs, and
General Manager kicked off our annual strategic planning process, beginning with a thorough SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats). Together, we refined our Strategic Goals and mapped out actionable steps for the coming year, taking into account the progress we have made to date this year, aligned with our Club’s Mission and Core Values: MISSION Let this be a place where man can commune with the sun and sand and sea, where good fellowship and aloha prevail and where the sports of old Hawai‘i shall always have a home. CORE VALUES We perpetuate our proud tradition. We nurture our fundamental connection to beach and sea as we honor and compete in the sports of old Hawai‘i. We celebrate fellowship as we enjoy, respect and serve our club and its ‘ohana.
Mahalo nui loa for being part of our ‘ohana.
Me ke aloha pumehana,
Emily Su-lan Reber Porter, President, Outrigger Canoe Club
