Crea-IT-ive Way Against The Clock: Building The 2024 ICT Summit Prague From Scratch
You never really know what’s around the corner until you take the turn. In September 2023, when I became a BICSI country chair of the Czech Republic, I wasn’t sure exactly where this new role would take me. But I knew one thing for certain: I wanted to contribute actively to the development of ICT in Europe. At first, I dreamed of creating educational programs for secondary schools and universities, introducing students to the world of ICT standards, as well as organizing a major event in Prague – a BICSI- endorsed ICT Summit, something that hadn’t been done in the city since 2017.
In February 2024, we got the go- ahead to organize the summit, with the initial target date set for the end of October. Nine months seemed like a reasonable timeline. So, together with Bob Camerino, RCDD, DCDC, CT, BICSI vice-chair, Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), we began planning. There were so many unknowns: no pre-set budget, no agency prepayments, no confirmed event sponsors, and no clear estimate of how many BICSI members would attend.
