Kappa Alpha Psi History

Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. was founded on the campus of Indiana University by ten college men and incorporated in Bloomington, Indiana on January 5, 1911. The ten founders, led primarily by Elder Watson Diggs, wanted to foster a fraternal environment based on the pursuit of excellence. They established that the fundamental purpose of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. and its members was the pursuit of “Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor.” Since its inception, over 113 years ago, Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. has initiated hundreds of thousands of members and grown exponentially into over 649 chapters, alumni and undergraduate; with alumni chapters located within every major metropolitan city and town across the U.S.A. and internationally. Through our Guide Right program, including “Kappa League,” the fraternity continues its commitment to influence the paths of young boys and men in making positive life choices. Through our Undergraduate Leadership Institute, we have trained over 125,000 men, particularly undergraduates, for leadership roles in their communities, and toward the attainment of a high degree of excellence in their academic pursuits. Today, Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. is a major service organization providing leadership talent and making positive impacts within organizations and communities across the nation from big cities to small towns. The International Headquarters is located at 2322 North Broad St., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19132.
