“ Today of the 40 missionaries rep resenting the San G a b r i e l Union Church many received their training and vision at BIOLA. We operate, as a part of our regular church program, the San Gabriel Christian School. The Bible I n s t i t u t e has given us invaluable counsel in this endeavor and we are extremely pleased with the work of the BIOLA graduates who are now on our faculty. We can highly recommend the department of Education of BIOLA College to anyone interested in this field.” DR. JACK MacARTHUR, Pastor Harry MacArthur Memorial Church “ In these days of appalling apos tasy, rampant heresies, confusion, doubt, and darkness, what a glorious witness is the stream of pure light that comes from BIOLA. For 50 years, immutable in its stand for the faith once for all delivered, dedicated to the great unwavering verities of the Christian faith, year after year splen did, trai ned, spiritually equipped young men and women “ go into all the world” with a knowledge of the scripture vital to the times and the crisis days in which we are living. In a day of pessimism and despair, these young men and women are optimistic, filled with hope, and have the answer to the problems of man and his world in a personal experi ence with the Lord Jesus Christ. We most heartily congratulate BIOLA on 50 fruitful years of training and serv ice for Christ in the past, and we look forward to the years ahead before our Lord returns, with the fervent prayer that these coming years will bring increased reaping and blessing far be yond anything yet accomplished for His glory and in His name.” WALLS “And by my God have I leaped over a wall” (Psa. 18:29) A wall before us, high and strong, Blockading all our way, A wall of heathendom and sin Which baffles us today. Around and round we compass it An entrance vainly seek, But proud and high, impregnable It scoffs at us as weak. But God can use the weakest things, The humble ones of earth, To put to flight the mightiest With things of little worth. With feet like hinds He sets us up In places high and steep; And by my God and in His strength O’er heathen Walls I leap. END.

BIOLA JUBILEE COMMENTS (February 24 completes BIOLA's 50th year of training young people for world-wide Christian service. These comments are by Christian leaders.)

REV. MARTIN SOPER, Exec. Secretary Los Angeles County Christian Endeavor “ I am grateful for the emphasis re ceived here at BIOLA on practical Christian work. More than any other school I know of, the Bible Institute makes certain that each student has a variety of practical Christian serv ice each year. While I was here learn ing the Word of God from competent teachers, I was putting this new learning into practice by speaking and playing on street teams, at the county jail, in missions, teaching Sunday School classes, etc. Therefore, rather than burying myself in theo logical study for several years and then attempting to work with needy people, I was encouraged to daily translate my learning into the lives of the ones I worked with. I am con vinced that this was the most impor tant part of my training to work with young people.” REV. JOSEPH HEMPHILL, Pastor San Gabriel Union Church “The Bible Institute had been operating for ten years when the San Gabriel Union Church had its begin ning. Before the work of our church was large enough to support a full time pastor, the pulpit was filled by ministerial students from the Bible Institute. “ Through the years, as the church has grown, our young people have enrolled in BIOLA to train for the Lord’s service, under the capable, fundamental and evangelical faculty. What can we more say? We have touched but the fringe of the labors of the graduates of BIOLA, not to mention the service of thousands of missionaries laboring under other evangelical a g e n c i e s around the world. Next month we shall endeavor to report what the missionaries consider the greatest needs of their fields. Let us all do our part in the sowing and the reaping ere the Lord of the Har vest calls the workers Home. We regret exceedingly an error in Part I in reporting the date of the death of Mr. Thomas Hannay, one of the members of the first graduating class. He died in 1914—not 1941— three years after his graduation. Margaret R. Crossett laboring in Honolulu, Hawaii has sent us the following poem which describes well the missionary’s task:

MR. RAY A. MYERS, Chairman BIOLA Board of Directors A s a Christian business man, I am vitally interested in two things: first, that investments and contributions of both time and money are used where they will return the greatest spiritual dividends. Second, how we can render the greatest serv ice in equipping our young people for a lifetime of service for the Lord Jesus Christ, both at home and abroad. “ I am happy to say that I believe there is no greater opportunity in the world today — anywhere — than is right here in the Bible Institute, where we have all of the tools neces sary to equip these young people for their lives of dedicated service. “ I am a builder, and I know that the first things we need in the con struction of a project are the proper tools. Without them, it would be use less to start any project. So it is with our great Institution. We have the tools here in the consecrated faculty and staff. We have now outgrown our present quarters and we need to double our capacities and efforts if we are to do the job the Lord has given us to do. Therefore, we believe the Lord has given us the La Mirada Campus as the place to do this job and we must develop it to its greatest potentiality. “We who serve on the Board of Directors earnestly enlist your prayer ful support in this great and impor tant work.” VISION (concluded) God. ‘Is God the sun, or a star, or a stone?’ he would say. Then he told us that he went far off where there was a vine called ayahuasca which was said to cause one to see God. He pressed out its juice and drank it. But he did not see Him. Can it be that you think that the people of this land of Peru know God? They do not know Him. They suppose He lives on the earth. We finally have the message of Jesus, but I am sad because of those who speak other languages need to know Jesus. They cry in their souls! Can’t you come? — You? We cannot go far away. We have no money to go in search of God’s Word. We are people with souls. We are God’s cre ation. Come. God will give to you all that is needed. I, Hwacha, a Piro, I have seen God’s help. It is finished. Hwacha.”
