statement of the meaning of the Gospel? You should he able to do so quickly and accurately. It is the message, the good news, that Jesus Christ gave to, the world as God’s remedy for sin. The Gospel is God’s way of redemption for the lost human race. Good works and self sacrifice are the usual ways that other religions give to come into favor with God. But, the Gospel is God’s way, the only way by which sinners can be saved. Many people do not know what the Gospel is. Some have wrong ideas about its meaning. During a conversation, a youth leader told a young lady how Christ could meet the needs of young people and bring peace and happiness to them. “ Re pentance and a personal willingness to receive Christ as Saviour is the way to be saved,” he said. After a pause, she replied, “ I have gone to church and Sunday School and know all the Bible stories, but this is the first time I have been told what it is all about.” Jesus sent His disciples to preach repen tance and remission of sins. He said, “ The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 18:10) Who are the lost? All who have not come to Christ to receive Him as Saviour from sin are lost. The Gospel is the good news that through Jesus’ shed blood and death upon Calvary, and His resurrection from the dead, everyone who believes on Him and receives Him may have his sins forgiven and new life in Christ. New life is the result of receiving Christ as Saviour. A Christian is a new person, a different per son. This is the marvel of the Gospel. It is the way people can be made over into new persons. The Gospel gives the way to receive eternal life and become a child of God. It is extremely important that anyone who is counselling another in the way to become a Christian must himself under stand the way which Jesus gave in the Gospel. It is applying the remedy for sin to a lost sinner. It is not sufficient to have a general idea. It must be as specific and accurate as the doctor’s prescription for the remedy for an illness. Personal evangelism is the ministry of giving the Gospel to unsaved persons and inviting them to receive Christ as their Saviour. The Gospel is God’s way of being saved. There is no other way!
