PARAPHRASE OF 1 COR. 13 (FOR BIBLE SCHOOL STUDENTS) I f I s p e a k in the tongues of Shake speare and Milton but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal, and if I have all A ’s with honors and understand all history and all theory, and if I have all faith so as to skip classes, but not love, I am nothing. If I give away all my time to extracurricular activities, and deliver my body to be used for week end gospel teams, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind to room mates; love is not jealous of campus fame or boastful of athletic ability; it is not arrogant or rude to floor moni- ors and faculty. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful during examination week; it does not rejoice at cheating in tests but rejoices in the right. Love bears all results, believes all corrective cri ticism, endures all the bad breaks. Love never ends; as for athletic standing, it will pass away; as for honors, they will cease; as for knowl edge it will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child; I thought as a child; I reasoned as a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we comprehend faint ly, but then with the light of wisdom. Now I know enough to get by semes ter examinations; then I shall under stand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So fame, talent, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. * * * NO OPTION Missionary service is not optional. It is not something that a disciple of Christ may either accept or reject, depending on his likes or dislikes, or on his frame of mind at the time. To be Christian is by definition to be a missionary. Accepting Christ as Sav iour and following Him as Lord, can not conceivably be complete without participation in His program for mak ing disciples of all nations. To the extent that any of us are non-mis sionary, or anti-missionary, to that extent we are non-Christian or anti- Christian.
