Treatment decision-making the role of the MultiDisciplinary Team (MDT)
In Section 4 we discussed the importance of specialist care and support. We talked about how having a specialist MDT involved in your care, can put you in the best possible position to access both the experience and expertise you may need to accurately diagnose, treat / monitor your cancer - and the care, information and support you may need. We also outlined who the members of an MDT might be. Here we talk about the considerations the MDT might take into account to help them reach an agreement on a treatment plan - including possible alternatives. The core function of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) is to bring together a group of healthcare professionals from different fields in order to determine a treatment plan. The team will review your test & scan results at one, or more, dedicated team meetings and discuss your individual care. This discussion will lead to an agreed plan of care - with consideration of alternative options.
