NCUK Virtual Patient Handbook

Does the MDT have access to histology results? Where was the sample from e.g., primary or secondary site, biopsy or post-surgery sample or other? Can the MDT confirm diagnosis from the available histology: cell type, differentiation and grade? Is further testing required - either in the lab or is there a need to consider further sampling? What scans does the MDT have access to eg CT, MRI, etc? When were they done? What do they show? It is important that scans are recent - if the only scans available are more than say 3 months old, they may need repeating, so that the team can see what the current state of disease is. (Older scans can be helpful, if also available, as these can be used for comparison - to see if any changes have occurred over time / following treatment) It is also important that the type of scan needed was done - if not done / not available - further scanning may be required. For example, if there are tumours in the liver and only a CT scan was done, the team may want an MRI as well - as this gives further information that may influence decision-making.
