In this diagram we can see that while both Laura and Anna have breast cancer - they have different mutations. This means that if we used the same drug for them both, it may treat their breast cancer, but if it only targets the mutation Laura has, she will gain more benefit than Anna. Anna may gain more benefit from being given the same targeting drug as James, as although they may have different cancers, they share the same cancer mutation.
