Why this matters Green Buildings
Green buildings are built to higher standards of energy efficiency. They contribute to reducing energy use in people’s homes, reducing carbon emissions and energy demand, helping to make residents’ bills more affordable and contributing to a reduction in fuel poverty. Under the bond allocation, we have been able to complete or bring forward 897 new units of accommodation under the Green Buildings category. A household’s carbon emissions are measured by its carbon footprint. This is translated into kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent, or kgCO²e in short form. In measuring our impact, we have compared the average carbon emissions from an average home at EPC C to an average new build home in 2022-23, using data from 64 units at our most recently completed green building, Berystede Court in Standish. Average emissions kgCO²e Existing Stock 1,667 Berystede Court, Standish 1,109 Of these 64 newly delivered units, the average kgCO²e per property was 1,109. The average kgCO²e of our existing stock is 1,667 meaning that the new green homes delivered were on average producing 558 kgCO 2 e, or one-third, less than an average unit’s emissions levels 3 . Affordable Housing and provision of essential services Providing essential services and affordable housing to meet the needs of an ageing population provides wide-ranging benefits for older people, their families, communities and society. With residents supported to continue to live independently, individual health and wellbeing is supported, benefiting individuals, families, communities and public services. A selection of the new homes and care homes and the services they provide are highlighted below.
