How only can saving faith come? (Jn. 14:6.) “ J e s u s s a i t h u n to h im , I a m t h e w a y , t h e t r u t h , a n d t h e li f e : n o m a n c o m e th u n to t h e F a t h e r , b u t b y m e .” (Note: Missionaries have testified to finding in heathen lands those who had been sincerely groping a fte r God and who looked upon the arrival of the m issionary as an answer to th eir prayers. For the most p art, however, the heathen do not walk in the ligh t th a t they already have, hu t choose ra th e r the p easures of sin, hence they may be ju stly held accountable. (Isa. 40:21, 22, 26.) « H a v e y e n o t k n o w n ? h a v e y e n o t h e a r d ? h a t h i t n o t b e e n to l d y o u f r o m t h e b e g in n in g ? h a v e y e n o t u n d e r s to o d f r o m th e f o u n d a tio n s o f t h e e a r t h ? (Ps. 139:7; Jer. 23:24.) “W h i th e r s h a ll I g o f r o m t h y s p ir it ? o r w h ith e r s h a ll I fle e f r o m t h y p r e s e n c e ? ” “ C a n a n y h id e h im s e lf in s e c r e t p la c e s t h a t I s h a ll n o t s e e h im ? s a i t h t h e L o rd . D o n o t I fill h e a v e n a n d e a r t h ? s a i t h t h e L o rd .” If the heathen are falsely taught, does th is excuse them ? (Isa. 9:16-17.) “ F o r t h e l e a d e r s o f t h i s p e o p l e ' c a u s e th e m t o e r r ; a n d th e y t h a t a r e le d o f th e m a r e d e s tr o y e d . T h e r e f o r e t h e L o r d s h a ll h a v e n o jo y in t h e i r y o u n g m e n , n e i t h e r s h a l l h a v e m e r c y o n t h e i r f a t h e r l e s s a n d w id o w s : f o r e v e r y o n e is. a n h y p o c r ite a n d a n e v ild o e r, a n d e v e r y m o u th s p e a k e t h fo lly . F o r a ll t h i s h is a n g e r 1$ n o t tu r n e d a w a y , b u t h is h a n d is s t r e t c h e d o u t s t il l.” Is any man saved from the conse quences of his course merely because he sincerely believed he was righ t? (Prov. 16:25.) “ T h e r e Is a w a y t h a t s e e m e th r i g h t u n to a m a n , b u t t h e e n d th e r e o f a r e t h e w a y s o f d e a th .” If the heathen followed the light given him in creation, to whom would it lead him? (Jn. 6:44.) “N o m a n c a n c o m e to m e , e x c e p t th e F a t h e r w h ic h h a t h s e n t m e d r a w h im : a n d I w ill r a i s e h im u p a t t h e l a s t d a y .” How would God respond to such a sincere groping afte r Him? (Rom. 10: 14-15.) “H o w t h e n s h a ll t h e y c a ll o n h im in w h o m th e y h a v e n o t b e lie v e d ? a n d h o w s h a ll t h e y b e lie v e i n h im o f w h o m th e y h a v e n o t h e a r d ? a n d h o w s h a ll th e y h e a r w ith o u t a p r e a c h e r ? A n d h o w s h a ll th e y p r e a c h e x c e p t t h e y h e s e n t? a s i t is w r i t t e n , H o w b e a u tif u l a r e t h e f e e t o f th e m t h a t p r e a c h t h e g o s n e l o f p e a c e , a n d b r in g g la d ti d in g s o f g o o d th i n g s ! ”
