H H ' THE JUNIORS HOW A LITTLE LAD HELPED Jo h n 6 :1 .14 Here is a wonderful picture. It was the feast tim e when the Jews came from all over the country to Jerusalem . They had on th e ir holiday clothes of gay colors. Jesus was th ere and they saw Him go down to the lake and get in one of the little boats w ith His disciples to cross over to the other side. The people saw where He was going and- walked around the head of the lake, and when the boat reached the other side a g reat crowd of people were there. He went over to rest, but they would not let Him rest, so He talked to them all the day. The people were hungry and the disciples wanted to send them away, but Jesus would not send any one away hungry. So one of the disciples said, “There is a lad here which has five
barley loaves and two small fishes.” Ju st five little biscuits and two dried herring. This boy perhaps saw the crowd going by his home and asked his mother if he could go along w ith the people, and she said, “Yes,” and gave him a little lunch of bread and herring. Well, Jesus told th e people to sit down on the grass and took the loaves and asked God to bless them , and then commenced to break them into pieces and gave to the disciples to give to the people. He k e p t‘breaking and breaking the bread, and th e fish, and passing to the disciples, and the disciples passed it on to the people, and yet th ere was bread and fish in His hands until every body had all he wanted to eat. Then He told th e disciples to take baskets and g ath er up all the little pieces so th a t nothing would be lost. There were five thousand men who were fed, besides the women and chil dren. Then the pebple believed th a t Jesus was the Christ because He worked such a wonderful miracle. Don’t you wish you had been th a t boy and had seen what a g reat crowd could be. fed w ith those few little biscuits and fish? If any boy or girl will follow Jesus and give Him th e best they have, — and give it gladly, who can tell what Jesus will do w ith th e ir gifts? Memory Verse: “Remember the words of th e Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give th a n to re ceive.” (Acts 20:35.)
