SPRINGTIME — THE SEASON OF NEW BEGINNINGS AND A GOOD TIME TO REFRESH OUR GOALS I had first started studying Spanish my sophomore year of high school after befriending an exchange student from Madrid, Spain, named Andrea. Andrea and I became fast friends during her time in Ohio, and when it was time for her to return home to Spain, I became motivated to learn her native language, Spanish. I took Spanish language courses throughout high school and continued to study the language at college. For my sophomore spring semester of college, I had the opportunity to study abroad. I chose to do a full-immersion home-stay experience in Madrid. That semester I lived with Rosa, a Spanish-speaking woman who did not speak any English. By the end of my time in Madrid, I could effectively and efficiently communicate in Spanish. I wasn’t fluent by any means, but I had made a ton of improvement. When I graduated college and moved back to Ohio, I found that Spanish was not a part of the law school curriculum. I fell out of the habit of consistent Spanish study and stopped practicing Spanish on any regular basis. I really hadn’t spoken Spanish since graduating college. While goal setting and resolutions are generally associated with the month of January and the start of the new year, to me springtime has always felt like a good time for a fresh start. So, this spring, I made it my goal to try to re-learn the Spanish language. Several weeks ago, I enrolled in an online Spanish course to help me with my goal.

Clear. In “Atomic Habits,” Clear writes that achieving our goals is the product of daily, bite-size habits rather than once-in-a-lifetime change. According to Clear, habits are feedback loops that involve four steps: cue, craving, response, and reward. Therefore, to change our habits, or to take on new ones (like studying Spanish), the behavior we want to adopt should be (1) obvious, (2) attractive, (3) easy, and (4) satisfying. Clear believes that by making the desired behavior obvious, attractive, easy, and satisfying, it is more likely that it will become a habit feedback loop that we will repeat enough times that it becomes automatic. I have found the principles of “Atomic Habits” to be helpful in staying motivated in re-learning Spanish. When I am in the car, I listen to Spanish audio lessons and then I do some Spanish writing while I have my first cup of coffee in the morning. Because driving and drinking coffee are already parts of my daily routine, incorporating my Spanish practice to these habits makes it easier for me to be consistent. This spring, if you are working toward a goal, or have a new habit you’ve been trying to adopt, I encourage you to consider taking the “Atomic Habits” approach.

IT’S VACATION SEASON! SHOULD I BUY RENTAL CAR INSURANCE WHEN I TRAVEL?

Whether you rent a car while on vacation or simply drive around your hometown, you may wonder if you should buy the extra rental car insurance the company offers. The answer to that depends on what type of car insurance you already have. Some people need the additional coverage, and for others, it is a redundant expense. Before you drive the rental car off the lot, verify your coverage with your personal car insurance policy and then go into the rental car company with an idea of what types of insurance you need to supplement your own. What types of car insurance do I need for my rental car? You will need to have liability, collision, and comprehensive coverage for your rental car. You may also want to have uninsured/underinsured motorist protection and medical payments (med pay) on your policy. Does my current car insurance cover rental cars? If you own a car and have a personal car insurance policy, it includes liability coverage as well as any additional coverage options you’ve

Most personal car insurance will extend to rental cars if you only use it for personal use. However, you need to make sure your insurance covers rentals. You can do this by calling the number on your insurance card and speaking with someone in customer service. It’s important to note that all of the same coverage limitations and deductibles that apply to your personal vehicle will also apply to your rental car. If you have low coverage limits or high deductibles, you might consider opting into the extra rental car insurance policy to cover whatever your own personal car insurance does not. Does my credit card have rental car coverage? Some credit cards offer insurance if you pay for your rental car using that card. You can call the toll-free number on the back of your credit card and ask your company before deciding to purchase extra coverage through the rental car agency. It’s possible that your credit card company may only offer collision coverage for your rental car. Thus, you would still need liability and comprehensive coverage. If your

It is staying light later, and if you’re like us, this means eating dinner later as we get out and enjoy the spring weather and longer days. own personal car insurance policy does not cover those types of insurance, you can purchase the additional coverage through the rental car company. If you do, your credit card company’s insurance will likely serve as “secondary” insurance. When should I purchase rental car insurance? You should buy rental car insurance before you ever set foot in your vehicle. If you don’t have any car insurance at all, you will need to buy liability and the other types discussed above. However, you should never drive a rental car off the lot without liability coverage. You might opt for the extra protection from the rental car company’s policy if your own policy does not include comprehensive and collision coverage. This especially applies if your rental car is a newer and more expensive vehicle. You don’t want to get stuck paying for the rental car repairs if it gets damaged. If you’re only insured under a commercial car insurance policy, you will want to purchase rental car insurance through the rental company. Your commercial policy won’t likely cover you unless you are working at the time of an accident. If you want to avoid a high deductible and make sure you have enough of a policy limit to cover everything, you should opt into rental car insurance through the rental company.

Welcome Spring With Open Arms

4 WAYS TO HARVEST POSITIVE VIBES IN SPRING GET SPRUNG

Welcome spring-cleaning. It isn’t called spring-cleaning for nothing! Decluttering, dusting, reorganizing, and tidying up feels great! It’s empowering and refreshing. There is something special about creating more space in your living space that gets the positivity flowing.

Have you ever noticed that springtime just feels lighter and brighter? That’s because, believe it or not, the seasons affect us. When spring rolls around, the energy shifts, and it’s up to us to maximize those positive vibes. Let’s examine how we can make the most of spring and inject some color and vibrancy into our lives again after a long winter. Rely on color. Colors have the ability to elicit certain emotions and feelings. Tropical tones and pastels are everywhere in spring — the clear sky, grass, and flowers — so allow them to fill your space and take them with you as constant reminders to smile. If you’re up for it, wear some new colors to brighten up your wardrobe, and don’t forget to take in a sunset when you’re able! Enjoy more hours of daylight. Spring brings more hours of sunlight and warming temperatures that can give you more time to enjoy your morning cup of coffee outside. You can take an early stroll around the block, get in a workout outdoors, or just enjoy the fresh air. Also, many areas observe daylight saving time, which extends sunlight into the evening, so no matter how you choose to spend your extra daylight, make it an adventure.

Eat fresh, colorful foods. During spring, many delicious fruits and vegetables come into season. Berries, oranges, apples, carrots,

avocados, cherries, spinach, and kale are all at their peak. Your local farmers market is a great place to get the freshest produce to fuel your body!

Spring is a time for new beginnings and positivity. Make the most of this spring season by welcoming a fresh abundance of love and life.
