New York Red Angus Association- Right on Red [4/25/26]

Premier Red the event

Saturday April 25, 2026 Sale Starts 1:00 PM

Seneca County Fairgrounds 100 Swift Street Waterloo, NY 13165 RIGHT TIME RIGHT GENETICS RIGHT FOR THE INDUSTRY

Dear Friends, Welcome to the 4 th Annual Right on Red Sale! We are honored and humbled with your interest in the Red Angus genetics offered. A lot of thought, effort and planning went into bringing you a set of cattle that are sound, func - tional and suited to move the US beef industry forward. It seems like yesterday when leaders of the New York Red Angus Association began a discussion of what could the association do for its members. What were the pressing matters affecting the majority of members? Many ideas were placed on the table, but the discussion kept returning to the difficulty of raising replacement heifers and developing bulls while coping with the winter weather and individual farm space constraints. From this idea, the reality of a development program materalized after a lot of one-on-one visits with members, which led to enthusiam for the program. What have we learned in 4 years? The simple and true answer is A LOT! However, the bottom line is there are exceptional red genetics being created by amazing breeders in not only New York State, but surrounding states. In November 2025, the majority of the yearling bulls and females in this offering began a development program at Erwindale Farms in Waterloo, NY. These cattle have been developed on a high forage diet and continually assessed for structural correctness, optimal growth and measured for carcass characteristics using ultrasound technology. Additionally, all bulls have passed a breeding soundness exam. Bulls 18 months or older have been tested for and are negative for Trich. Breeders also had the opportunity to develop heifers and bulls at home as well as consign bred females, cow/ calf pairs, embryos and semen. All cattle, whether developed at Erwindale Farms or at home, followed a rigorous vaccination protocol and will settle nicely into your herd. The cattle found in this offering are the result of decades of breeding program decisions in pursuit of producing industry leading functional genetics that ultimately impact the American consumer. Today’s Red Angus cattle are known for their high maternal approach to the beef business combined with efficiency and docility. These traits not only serve the cow/calf producer well, but also provide the entire beef business with the quality product the market demands. We hope you can join us on Saturday, April 25, 2026. If you can not be with us in person, bid online thru DVAuc - tions or contact us to handle your bids in the most confidential manner. Videos of each lot will also be available through the DVAuction website prior to the sale. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us at any time. We look forward to visiting with you in Waterloo, New York!

Sincere thanks to Phillip Paradais and Megan Anderson for clipping the cattle at the Devel - opment Center for pictures and videos. Thank you to Carousel Design and Photo and Rock Valley Livestock Photography and Ser - vices for photography and video expertise and editing.

day. They should be fed during the breeding season too. • Young bulls should be limited to a minimum number of females to service. The rule of thumb is 1 female/ month of age of the bull. So, if a bull is 16 mo. old at turnout, there should only be 16 females in the pas - ture. Breeding season should be limited to 60 days. • Target growth rate on heifers is 1 lb/day. They should weigh 80% of their mature weight at calving with a body condition score of 6.

• To protect the health of the newly purchased animals and your herd, separate the newly purchased animals from the rest of the herd for a minimum of 3 weeks and preferably 30 days. • Yearling bulls still have a lot of growing to do. They need to be fed. They have been on a silage/halage based diet. They need to receive 2.2% of their body weight (25 to 35 lbs/day) of balage or hay plus 1 to 2 lbs of protein. The should continue to gain 2-2.5 lbs/

Red Angus Guide to EPDS and Indexes

ProS ... Profitability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and GridMaster selection indexes. In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed in dollars per head born (Index/High Value).

HB ..... HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Expressed as dollars per head born, HB is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are retained and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. Traits included in the HB index include Calving Ease Direct, Calving Ease Maternal, Weaning Weight, Milk, Mature Weight, Heifer Pregnancy and Stayability (Index/High Value).

GM..... GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the post- weaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance and carcass traits. Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a quality-based carcass grid. Traits included in GM include Average Daily Gain, Carcass Weight, Dry Matter Intake, Marbling, Back Fat and Rib Eye Area (Index/High Value).

CED .......Calving Ease Direct predicts differences in the percent of calves born unassisted out of 2-year-old dams. (Percent/High Value) BW ........Birth Weight predicts differences in actual birth weight of progeny. (Pounds/Low Value) WW .......Weaning Weight predicts differences in 205-day weaning weight. (Pounds/High Value) YW ........Yearling Weight predicts differences in 365-day yearling weight. (Pounds/High Value) ADG .......Average Daily Gain predicts differences in weight gain between 205 and 365 days of age. (Pounds/High Value) DMI .......Dry Matter Intake predicts differences in daily feed intake as measured in a feedlot during the post-weaning period. (Pounds/Low Value) MILK .....Milk predicts differences in weaning weight attributed to the milking ability of the animal’s daughters. (Pounds/High Value) ME ........Maintenance Energy predicts the difference in maintence energy requirements. (Mcal per Month/Low Value) HPG .......Heifer Pregnancy predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to conceive and calve at 2 years of age following exposure to breeding. (Percent/High Value)

CEM ......Calving Ease Maternal predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to calve unassisted as 2-year-old heifers. (Percent/High Value) STAY ......Stayability predicts differences in the ability of an animals’ retained daughters to remain productive in the herd – calve every year – through 6 years of age. (Percent/High Value) MARB ....Marbling predicts differences in marbling score – amount of intramuscular fat measured at the 13th rib. (Marbling Score Units/High Value) YG .........Yield Grade predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade, which is calculated using CW, REA and Fat. (Yield Grade Units/Low Value) CW ........Carcass Weight predicts differences in actual hot carcass weight. (Pounds/High Value) REA .......Ribeye Area predicts differences in square inches of ribeye area measured at the 13th rib.(Square Inches/High Value) FAT ........Fat predicts differences in the depth of backfat measured between the 12th and 13th ribs. (Inches/Low Value)

WFL Merlin 018A is found on both the paternal and maternal sides of the pedigree in addition to Independence and Brown JYJ Redemption Y1334. He is the second calf of HCFNY 2211 Liza Petunia, who was purchased from Hidden Canyon Farm in the 2023 Right on Red Sale and has maintained a 354 day calving interval. This low birth weight EPD bull measured over 5% of intramuscular fat via ultrasound in February. In a crossbreeding system, this bull’s calves could really show a nice amount of hybrid vigor.
