Maintaining Healthy Joints

HEALTHY JOINTS MATTER 8 TIPS TO PROTECT YOUR JOINTS ​We do so much without even thinking about it. We breathe, eat, walk, run, and blink without giving a thought as to how much work our body does, including the many moving parts it takes to make these bodily movements and functions possible. Our joints play a major part in our physical movement. Your joints are the areas in your body where two or more bones come together. Many of the joints in your body have cartilage on the ends of the bones to help them gently glide over one another. Healthy joints are one of the keys to painless running, jumping, walking, yoga, and sports. Of course, staying healthy, sleeping enough, avoiding injuries, eating right, and getting regular exercise all contribute to healthy joints. But we have a few other tips to keep your joints in their best condition. DRINK MORE WATER. Water accounts for around 80% of the cartilage in your joints. When your body becomes dehydrated, it takes water from other areas of your

body, including your cartilage, and your joints may suffer as a result. Stay hydrated! EAT YOUR GREENS. Vegetables such as bibb lettuce, romaine lettuce, spinach, kale, parsley, and broccoli all play a role in helping your body to fight against cartilage destruction and bone loss. These dark leafy greens all contain antioxidants called carotenoids, which can help rebuild your cartilage. STAY ACTIVE. Too much activity and inactivity can both wreak havoc on your joints. When you are able to, alternate between sitting and standing to avoid your joints from becoming too strained or stiff. MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT. Carrying extra weight on your body places unnecessary stress on your joints. In fact, according to the Cleveland Clinic, losing just 10 pounds can significantly help prevent joints from falling victim to osteoarthritis, which
