The CCHL hockey season has a grueling schedule with a lot of travel, training and games. Players are encouraged to pursue higher education at the same time and it’s a challenge in many ways. Roman Ammi- rato, a 21-year-old New Jersey native, came to the CCHL in 2011 and played for the

Hawks during the 2012-2013 sea- son. Now, the forward has joi- ned Union College for the 2014- 2015 season after a stint with the Amarillo Bulls. “It’s a dream come true for me, hockey and academic wise, to go to a terri!c school like Union,” said Ammirato. Some Hawks players also !nd a place to shine in NCAA division III. Defenceman Jake Roeper decided to go back to his native Wisconsin for a spot on the Lawrence Univer- sity Vikings’ roster. Another defen- ceman, Andrew Reis, also quit the Hawks during the o"-season to join the Colby College Mules. “Some have opportunities they can miss, other just want to expe- rience something new,” said Shawn Anderson. “If they can further their hockey development, keep

HAWKESBURY | The Hawkesbury Hawks organization is known to be a successful farm team for National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college teams and athletes who want to further their hockey development while successfully getting a college education down the road. Just like current Hawks captain Hunter Racine, who’s committed to Colgate Uni- versity Raiders for the 2015-2016 season, many choose or will choose the American collegiate hockey system after gaining experience in the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL). This season, centre Jacob Laliberté will be back for a fourth season with the RPI Engi- neers.
