PAGE 17 | THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
life in Mount Pleasant .
Emerging as one of North America’s fastest-growing tech hubs, Mount Pleasant’s ever-growing base of restaurants, coffee shops and micro breweries make this Vancouver’s most sought-after neighbourhood. Surrounding False Creek and Vancouver’s downtown peninsula, the area is home to first- time homeowners and young professionals, as well as a growing number of families and active downsizers. Mount Pleasant is part of Vancouver East and is 2.9 km from Downtown Vancouver and 10.1 km from the Vancouver International Airport. There are 5 schools in Mount Pleasant including St. Patrick Regional Secondary, St Francis Xavier, and Mount Pleasant Elementary. WHAT YOU’LL LOVE All the colourful murals—the result of the annual Vancouver Mural Festival—enable endless photo ops. Capture those then shop curated fashion at Still Life, stock up for package-free groceries at Nada, or join the free yoga outdoor class at Dude Chilling Park (Guelph Park, technically, but nobody calls it that). As for dining, locals are spoiled for choice, particularly on vegetarian-friendly front. DID YOU KNOW At the turn of the 20th century, the area was known as Brewery Creek because of all the breweries built along the stream that used to run from Tea Swamp to False Creek. While the stream is gone, the brewing tradition has returned thanks to 33 Acres, Brassneck, and others.
