Life Politex¹

Syre 3 Selenis has partnered with Syre to establish a textile-to-textile recycling facility in Cedar Creek, North Carolina, which is expected to be operational by mid-2025. The facility will integrate advanced recycling technologies, combining depolymerization and polymerization processes for industrial-scale recycling of polyester textiles, with a strong focus on sustainability. This initiative seeks to significantly reduce CO2 emissions and serve as a model for future global expansion of textile recycling.

Selenis participates in the Life Politex project, with the aim of establishing the first industrial pilot plant for fiber-to-fiber recycling, focused on full circularity in polyester production. The project implements a comprehensive recycling process, including textile waste collection, mechanical recycling, chemical depolymerization and polymerization to create new polyester fibers, which can be reintegrated into textile production. Life Politex seeks to reduce landfill waste and incineration of polyester textiles by advancing recycling technologies that transform textile waste into new materials, contributing to a sustainable circular economy.

Selenis has successfully produced high-quality recycled PET (rPET) chips from Circ’s recovered terephthalic acid using polycotton textile waste at a pilot plant in Italy, with plans to continue the collaboration and support Circ’s industrial production. The partnership demonstrates the effectiveness of Circ’s monomer synthesis, matching the quality of virgin monomers, and is aligned with Selenis’ goals to reduce plastic waste and carbon footprint by transforming textile waste into new products. This initiative highlights the potential of innovative recycling technologies to address industry challenges, in particular the separation and recovery of polycotton blended textile materials.
