The partnership: Bio PET/PETG
Utilising UPM’s Bio-MEG as feedstock, Selenis developed bio based PET and PETG resins, in line with our vision to decrease the industry’s dependency on virgin fossil materials and to drive towards a net zero circular economy. These resins have been utilised in applications for the cosmetics and pharma sectors. The intent is to continue developing the fruitful relationship in 2024, and to develop Bio PET and Bio PETG resins for a plethora of other final applications. Sustainable Drop-In Solution! UPM renewable glycols have exactly the same high quality properties as current, fossil- based glycols. They can be integrated in existing production processes and work in all existing recycling processes - a true drop-in- solution with improved sustainability as value add.
2 nd generation feedstock Industrial hardwood residues from sustainably managed and certified (FSC/PEFC) forests, which today are mostly burned, are the source of renewable carbon in UPM’s glycols.

Towards Zero CO₂ Footprint! UPM BioPura™ bioMEG has a negative cradle-to-gate carbon footprint. It is based on a third-party validated LCA according to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044, considering the biogenic carbon from their raw material. This enables a significant improvement in any PET/PETG CO₂ footprint, bringing it closer to net zero.
Local value chain UPM glycols are produced in Germany, for regional value chains, ensuring maximum supply security, a water-proof chain of custody and proximity to the European chemical industry.
