Dear Captain,

Thank you for taking part in the Higgs LLP Charity Football Tournament. The tournament continues to grow and has over the years raised tens of thousands of pounds for various charities. This year we are delighted to be supporting The Mary Stevens Hospice along with a number of smaller local charities. Mary Stevens Hospice is an incredible facility providing patients with incurable or life limiting illnesses the opportunity to enjoy their lives to the fullest, however long that may be. They are reliant upon charitable donations to be able to provide the care that they do and I am sure that you will agree that this is a very worthy cause. On the following page are details of how to enter a raffle to win an iPad mini which has kindly been donated by Quiss, the winner of which will be announced on the day. An amazing 72 teams are taking part this year. Each team will play at least 5 matches, 48 teams will advance to further rounds and 24 teams will be eliminated after the group stage. The top two teams in each group will progress to the “Knockout Group of 3” stage, third and fourth teams in each group will progress to the “Plate Group of 3” stage. The Knockout and Plate Group of 3 consists of 8 groups of three teams. The top team in each Group of 3 stage will progress to the Knockout and Plate Quarter Finals respectively. Matches will last 8 minutes and there will be no half time. Teams will be awarded 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw. Should any match in the Knockout and Plate stages remain level at full time the match will be settled by a penalty shoot out. Should the final remain a draw at full time, extra time of 5 minutes will be played followed by a penalty shootout if the scores remain level. A BBQ will be provided later in the afternoon and a cash bar will be available throughout the day for snacks and refreshments. Any supporters who wish to attend are more than welcome. Directions

Stourton Park is located just off the A458 Stourbridge to Bridgnorth road. DY7 6QZ is the postcode for your Sat Nav.

From the North Leave the M5 at junction 3 and take the A456 signposted Kidderminster and Stourbridge. At the second set of traffic lights (approximately 6 miles) turn right onto the A491 signposted Stourbridge and follow the signs for the town centre until you reach the ring road (approximately 3 miles). Take the exit signposted A458 Bridgnorth and follow this until you reach the town boundary (approximately 2.5 miles). Stourton Park is clearly visible on the left hand side approximately quarter of a mile after the town boundary sign. From the South and East Leave the M5 at junction 4 and take the A491 Stourbridge Road. Follow this for approximately 10 miles until you reach the Stourbridge ring road. Take the exit signposted A458 Bridgnorth and follow this until you reach the town boundary (approximately 2.5 miles). Stourton Park is clearly visible on the left hand side approximately quarter of a mile after the town boundary sign. From the West Follow the A449 Kidderminster to Wolverhampton Road to the traffic lights where it crosses the A458. Take the road signposted Stourbridge and Stourton Park can be clearly seen on the right hand side just before you reach the town boundary.

Parking

Parking is available at Stourbridge Rugby Football Club. There will also be an overflow car park on the grass fields, however, this tends to fill up quite quickly (please see below). Therefore, we would recommend to car share where possible. Visitors to Stourton Park are kindly requested to make use of the parking facilities available on the grounds. Please DO NOT park on the nearby Prestwood Drive Bridleway, which has restricted rights of access. Staffordshire County Council has asked us to point out that motorists who park on Prestwood Drive are committing a criminal offence and are liable to prosecution.

Tournament Rules

General Rules

1. Please try to ensure that all members of your team are wearing the same colour top. Bibs will however be available if required.

2. Teams must make themselves available to kick off the game at the scheduled time. All the matches will kick off at the same time. If a team is not ready to start on time, this may result in the offending team forfeiting the match and a 4-0 victory being awarded to the other team.

3. Please ensure all players have appropriate footwear. The games will be played on grass and artificial grass. Studded boots are a requirement for the artificial grass pitch.

4. Shin pads must be worn by all players. This is a requirement of our insurers.

5. Teams are allowed to use a total of 8 players in any one game. Substitutions can be made on a roll-on, roll-off basis by alerting the referee that you wish to make a substitution. The game will not be stopped for substitutions to be made. A maximum of three substitutions is permitted per game.

Specific Rules

The normal rules of football will apply in addition to the following:

1. The referee is in sole charge of the game. The referee’s decision within any game is final.

2. The team to kick off will be determined by the referee.

3. The ball is allowed to go over head height.

4. All free kicks and centres are indirect. Opposing players are required to retreat 3 yards from the ball.

5. Goalkeepers are not allowed outside the goal area at any time. Breach of this rule will result in a penalty being awarded

6. Goalkeepers must throw the ball underarm into play. They are not permitted to kick the ball out or throw over arm. Also, goalkeepers must not throw the ball into opposing half without it first bouncing in his own half. The breach of this rule will result in an indirect free kick two yards outside the goal area.

Specific Rules Continued…

7. The back-pass rule does not apply although the ball when thrown by the keeper must be played by a minimum of 2 players before it can be returned to the keeper. Breach of this rule will result in an indirect free kick two yards from the goal area.

8. Goalkeepers may only hold the ball for up to 5 seconds. Breach of this rule will result in an indirect free kick two yards from the area.

When the ball leaves the field of play: (i) 'throw ins' must be an underarm roll into play. Opposing players must be at least three yards away from the player taking the throw in;

(ii) 'corners' will be kicked back into play; and

(iii) the goalkeeper will roll the ball back into play (in accordance with 6 above) for 'goal kicks'.

10. Sliding tackles are not permitted. Breach of this rule will result in a in-direct free kick being awarded and a yellow card. Constant breach of this rule will result in dismissal.

11. No outfield player is allowed in the goal area. If a defender encroaches into his own goal area then a penalty will be awarded. If a player encroaches into the opposing goal area then it will be the goalkeeper’s ball.

12.

There shall be no offsides.

13. If a player is, in the referees opinion, through on goal and has a goal scoring opportunity and is fouled deliberately by an opponent, this will result in a penalty.

14. Please note that the referees may issue yellow and red cards during the tournament. Yellow cards will result in a £5 fine and red cards a £10 fine payable by the offending team following the match. These fines will added to the funds to be donated to charity.
