Business events across winter
• Neuromodulation Society of Australia and New Zealand 2024, 18-22nd July, Hobart.
The Tasmanian Government’s Business Events Attraction Fund (BEAF), which Business Events Tasmania (BET) has been managing since 2021 has been a critical tool to attract conferences to Tasmania during the off-season. Late last year, the Tasmanian Government reinvested into the BEAF, allocating $1.8 million as part of its $12 million commitment to support the 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy. Since then, the sales team have been working tirelessly on a campaign to secure business events into Tasmania during winter. Tasmania is set to welcome 27 business events to the state between June and August and with the trend of shorter lead times continuing, we are still seeing opportunities to secure further conferences for winter 2024. In the past month the team have worked on three leads for July and August this year. Albeit for smaller conferences, these groups are high yielding corporate groups, providing a broad economic injection through their offsite activities.
• Ports Australia, 9-11th August, Hobart.
• Australian Cherry Industry Conference, 31st July – 2nd August.
• 27th International Clean Air and Environment Conference and the 10th International Water Association Odour and VOC/Air Emissions Conference, 26-29th August, Hobart.
• Australian Hand Therapy Association National Conference, 16-18 August, Hobart.
Business Events Tasmania CEO Marnie Craig said increasing visitation through business events during the winter months are very important. “In addition to the direct delegate numbers who visit the state, 28 per cent of them bring at least one other person with them, stay on average 4.7 nights with 20 per cent travelling to regional Tasmania, sharing the benefit around and away from the population centres,” she said.
Upcoming conferences of note include:
• 25th Symposium of Australian Gastronomy, 5-8th July, Launceston.
