Payroll giving raises over
Delicious payroll giving campaign from Gousto They say a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but it seems this can work with employees too, if the prize is a meal with a loved one. This is the conclusion Gousto drew from its campaign during payroll giving week that coincided with Valentine’s Day. Payroll giving raises over £140 million every year for numerous charities. Payroll professionals play a central role in enabling those vital funds to get from the company’s employees to the partner payroll giving agency, who in turn distributes these funds to the charities. Like other pre-tax deductions such as pension payments, childcare vouchers and cycle to work schemes, payroll giving is an easy- to-administer deduction within systems already set for pre-tax deductions. Despite the significant amount raised annually through payroll giving, most large organisations don’t offer a scheme. Payroll giving is still a relatively untapped form of giving. However, the potential is there and a strong partnership between charities, payroll giving, the CIPP and its members can help us to take payroll giving to the next level. n £140 million every year for numerous charities
donations by up to £200 per month. “We already had 30-40 people taking part in our payroll giving scheme, but participation shot to over 100 employees with our payroll giving week campaign’, Sean Hoskin, MCIPPdip payroll manager at Gousto told us. This included running a prize draw, featuring the main prize as a meal with a loved one on Gousto. Sean even took to writing some poetry to make the campaign more fun and eye catching, something he admits was a first for him. Sean added, ”Payroll giving is such an easy way to support charities, and from a payroll point of view, it’s a very quick and easy scheme to administer. It might seem like yet another task, however, the impact of these contributions will benefit many organisations in the UK and beyond.” See the poem Sean created below.
Gousto will be planning their activities for 2023 payroll giving month and are considering introducing some face-to-face activities as well, despite mainly hybrid working. As an organisation, they’ll be taking their payroll giving messaging to social media, like they did in 2022.
