THE K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S
having on one or two occasions exposed the tolly of the documentary theory of the composition of the Pentateuch and Isaiah, etc., and where the destructive School of Biblical Criticism had utterly discredited itself, a group of students from one theological seminary came for more light in a private talk with Mr. Dreyer and myself, saying in beginning, “ That is the very thing we have been taught.” Many also had been reading some of the most pernicious articles in Hasting’s Bible Dictionary, which has been published in Chinese. The whole tone of the Conference was deeply and intensely spiritual. Bible study, prayer and definite efforts for the salvation of the lost went hand in hand. There can be little doubt that the salva tion of thousands of Chinese will be the direct outcome of the Conference. No time was wasted in advocating and ex pounding “ the Socia.1 Gospel” or “ any other gospel” than the one Paul preach ed (Gal. 1 :8), and that our Lord Jesus taught and the Whole Word of God teaches, the only saving Gospel (Rom. 1:16), the Gospel of a once Crucified and now Risen (1 Cor. 15:1-4) and soon Returning (Rev. 22:20) Christ, our Lord and Saviour Tesus. I wish I dared express all I believe about the wisdom, skill, sagacity, un selfishness, untiring activity, soundness in doctrine, etc., of Dr. Prank Keller as illustrated in this Conference and in all the work he is doing in Changsha and throughout China. Pray for him. He needs it. a » afe DR. DIXON AND MR. ROSS Dr. A. C. Dixon has been giving his whole time to the Bible Institute of Los Angeles and to the Church of the Open Door during October, in the ab sence of Dr. Torrey in China. He gave a remarkable series of ser mons morning and evening during the five Sundays of the montn, on the “ Glor ies of the Cross,” these ten sermons em bracing the great fundamental doctrines
comprised in the finished work wrought by our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. Dr. Dixon’s messages are clean-cut and concise, and have been listened to by very large audiences. Best of all, many have confessed Christ in the evening services, in response to his in vitation. Dr. Dixon expects to be with us again in May. In the meantime, he will as sist in the organization and , develop ment of a new church enterprise in Bal timore, in the vicinity of the Johns Hopkins University of that city. A number of people who were associated with him in a similar work there forty years ago will again be associated with him in this work. We commend him heartily for your prayers on this im portant mission. Rev. Britton Ross has just closed a series of meetings in the First Baptist .Church of San Pedro, California. He has been assisted in this work by Mr Ed. Williamson, one of the Institute graduates, who has had charge of the music. The Lord graciously blessed the preaching of the Word, and a num ber of conversions resulted. The latter part of September Mr. Ross held a Bible Conference in the First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells. There were services every day at 10.00 A. M. and 7.30 P. M. Great interest was manifested on the part of the church members and the people of the city, in the teaching of the Word of God, especially the addresses that were given on dispensational subjects, and great crowds attended, particularly when the subjects of prophecy and the Lord’s return were announced. The re sults of the campaign were very satis factory. People were converted as is always the case when the Word of the Lord is preached, especially along dis pensational lines. This congregation is one of the strongest in that part of Texas, and as a result of the campaign, Mr. Ross has been asked to become thè pastor of this church. He has accepted, thus severing very pleasant relations with the Bible Institute, and will be gin his ministry in Mineral Wells the first Sunday in December. We regret exceedingly that we must part with Mr. Ross who has been such an efficient and successful evangelist and teacher but gladly yield him to the work to which God has so definitely called him.
