BE COVETOUS OF TIME Queen Charlotte said. “ I am always quarreling with time: it is so short to do something, and so long to do noth ing.” John Bradford used to say, “ I count that hour lost In which I have done no good by my pen or tongue.” Seneca taught that time was the only thing of which it is a virtue to be covetous. Dr. Cotton Mather would ex press his regret after the departure of a visitor that had wasted his time, “ I had rather have given hiip a handful of money than have been kept thus long out of my study.” Henry Martyn won the honorable title, “ Thé man that never wasted an hour.”

Elijah knew that the wicked queen had killed all the people she could find who prayed to God. How was he to enter the king’s palace, where everything was so fine and the people wore such beau tiful clothes, while he was dressed in only camel skin clothes? Do you think that Elijah was afraid to go? . No, in deed, he was not, for he knew that God was with him. So the brave prophet Elijah started out on his journey across the high mountains to the palace of the king. When Elijah got to the palace he saw-the king seated upon a golden throne at the end of a great hall, dressed in his splendid robes, and a crown upon his head. By his side sat the cruel queen, glittering with jewels. At last Elijah stood before the king to give the message of God, that there would be no rain or dew for a long time, until he (Elijah) asked for it. Then Elijah went back home, and no one dared touch him for God was car ing for Elijah. God knew how the wicked queen would like to kill faithful Elijah, so God told him to go down by the brook behind the cliff. Elijah was tired after his journey, and he lay down and went to sleep. The next morning when he awoke he heard a strange flapping noise, over his head, and as they flew nearer and nearer, he saw a flock of ravens, each carrying something in its beak. The ravens dropped the bread and meat down beside Elijah. It was his breakfast which God sent. He had fresh water from the brook to drink, so you see what a nice meal he had. So Gpd took care of Elijah as He had promised for a long time.
