HILADELPHIA, PA — Temple University’s plan to reshape the
main Philadelphia campus over the next decade took a big step forward this spring with the opening of a $10 million building for the Architecture School. Designed by H2L2 Ar- chitects/Planners LLC, the four-story, 51,000 gsf building, is a part of the Tyler School of Art College and a gateway to Temple’s arts quad that already includes structures devoted to the visual and performing arts. H2L2 served as Architect of Record for the recently-com- pleted Tyler School of Art fine arts facility, with the Carlos Jimenez Studio as Design Architect. Expected to earn LEED Sil- ver, theArchitecture School has the first green roof on the main campus. Elegant and translu- cent, the building is supported by tubular load-bearing steel studs and clad in glass curtain wall. MERCER COUNTY, PA — Ar- cher &BuchananArchitecture, Ltd., announces the completion of a Christian Activities Building at Grove City College in Mercer County. Rathburn Hall will pro- vide space for campus ministry groups to receive leadership train- ing, resource support and serve as a centralized campus location for meetings, events, conferences and retreats. Grove City College is a 150-acre campus originally planned in 1876 on a classic college quad and green model. As the College grew in the early 20th century, that original model guided the Olmstead Broth- ers as they expanded the campus around new academic quadrangles and lawns. This classic master plan continues to guide campus

This is the first building to be constructed as part of Temple 20/20, the University’s vision of the campus as a series of green open spaces formed by buildings that are connected by an engaging pedestrian circulation system. An expan- sion of the Pearson-McGonigle
athletic facilities; an addition to the Boyer College of Music and Dance’s music building, Presser Hall; and an addition to the Student Center are other recent Temple projects on which H2L2 provided design services in a long-standing relationship with the University. ■

To save time, monitor costs and integrate design and construc- tion, Archer & Buchanan joined forces with Wallace Builders
of Pulaski, PA to form a design- build team. Other design team members include The Kachele Group - structural engineers; Al- len & Shariff - MEP engineers; and Gannet Fleming - civil engineers. Archer & Buchanan, with Marjorie Stein Interiors of Pittsburgh, provided interior design services. ■
