A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 12
Year 12 students have now completed their first half-term of the Sixth Form. Well done for being enthu- siastic, diligent and hard-working students. Thank you to all the Year 12 students who took part in last Friday’s Red Day in support of the charity Show Racism the Red Card. They all looked great in red! I would also like to thank all parents and carers for their generosity, as a school, we collected £849.15, which has already been given to this really wor- thy cause. Year 12 students have been busy with trips and visits this week. On Monday, Year 12 Literature students went to see a play called “A Raisin in the Sun” at the Lyric theatre in Hammersmith, while on Wednesday, students who are signed up to the Waldegrave MBA were taken off timetable in order to partake in this incredible opportunity. This week Year 12 and 13 Art, Photography and Fashion students also had the amazing opportunity to work with teacher and artist Charlotte Steel and life model Anna who have worked alongside the Royal Academy of Art for many years. The work that students have produced will go towards their final coursework grade and make an exciting addition to their portfolio if they wish to apply for creative degree or art foundation courses. Our Sixth Form open evening took place on Thursday, with a large number of Year 12 students impress- ing our visitors with their confidence.Thank you to these volunteers for supporting a successful event. Today, Year 12 Media Studies students attended the EGX and MCM Comic Conference. I am sure attend- ance to this event has further enhanced their passion for the subject and offered them some ideas in terms of what they could do in the future career-wise. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Year 12 students a restful half-term break. I look forward to seeing you back on-site on Wednesday 6th November, when we return for a short first week back!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘The old man and the sea’- Ernest Hemingway
A beautiful tale of a fisherman’s extremely challenging journey through the gulf stream, with a burning desire to catch what he has never been able to previously. The emotive effects of isolation and the physical toll chasing your dreams can take become more and more prevalent throughout. Hemingway masterfully combines carefully crafted and peaceful imagery of the sea with immense mental torment, as well as taking readers on a journey regarding the emptiness we may feel once our goals have been achieved, and perhaps don’t bring the fulfilment we dreamt of, we always wish for more. ~ Zara
