A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10

We are now in our final week of the school term. This week the Year 10s had an assembly with Ms Dhir, who went through the new target grade process and how it has now changed from KS3 to KS4. Students were also reminded that these predicted grades are certainly not there to restrict students. At Waldegrave, our students regularly achieve above their target grades and we want to encourage all students to challenge themselves. Students will be issued with their target grades after the half-term break.

In a break from normal timetables on Thursday, Year 10 were lucky to see a wonderful live presentation of An Inspector Calls, an English GCSE text, by the Globe Players’ theatre group.

Students have also been reminded by Ms Guy to ensure they have signed off all of their sections of their bronze Duke of Edinburgh award so that this can be completed. Congratulations to all students that took part. Hopefully many are considering continuing and doing the silver award. Congratulations to 10PGU for being top of the epraise leaderboard this week. They were in fact top in the whole school! A big well done to all of you.

A reminder that when students return after their October break, that all false eyelashes and nails need to be removed.

I hope that you and your family have a really lovely and relaxing half term holiday. We look forward to welcoming them back in November.

MRS PORTEOUS, HEAD OF YEAR 10

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ - Margaret Atwood This book follows the Handmaid of a wealthy family as she struggles to fight for her rights in a dystopian society where women are used as breeding machines. While those in charge use threats to suppress the desires of the Handmaids, nothing can stop the desire she has to reunite with her daughter who was cruelly taken away as the repressive state was gaining power. Atwood combines fictional aspects with real world issues such as oppression of women and power divide to create a story that will make you simultaneously devastated and filled with motivation to ensure that we continue to fight for what all women everywhere deserve the right to choose. ~ Isla
