PCOA Event Policy * In accordance with CDC guidelines, masking at PCOA facilities is optional for staff, volunteers, and members of the public. CDC recommends people at high risk of serious illness from COVID 19 discuss when they should wear masks and other precautions with their healthcare provider. PCOA representatives will gladly put on a mask at your request. Participants at in-person event(s) will be expected to adhere to distancing and safety guidelines as provided. Guidelines for functions held in community sites not operated by PCOA may vary. including with Tucson Home Sharing, which focuses on providing information sessions on home sharing arrangements to the general community. HomeMatch Pima is a home sharing program at Pima Council on Aging that will open later in 2022 and is designed to match home owners with home sharers. The program works collaboratively within the community to increase knowledge and access to home sharing options, support and endorsement in creating such a unique program. To our knowledge, we are the first home sharing program in Arizona! At this time, we are asking home owners interested in learning more about the program to complete a brief interest form. (That form can be accessed through HomeSharing.pcoa.org). Please note that home owners must be age 60 or older to participate in our HomeMatch Pima program. The interest form does not commit you to the program! We will then follow up with interested home owners and provide more information about the next steps. As HomeMatch Pima develops, more information will be provided on our website and in future issues of Never Too Late . Thank you for taking the time to consider yourself as a potential home owner or home sharer in our program. Most importantly, we encourage you to age your way , as only you know what is best for you at this time in your life. Now go celebrate yourself!
Every May, the Administration on Community Living (ACL) provides leadership for the nation’s celebration of Older Americans Month (OAM). ACL selected the theme of Age My Way for OAM 2022. The Age My Way theme highlights the unique needs and preferences of each older adult. For example, the desire of many older adults to continue living and thriving in their homes and communities for as long as is safely possible. Here at PCOA, we honor the opportunity for each of you to age your way ! As is true in all other phases in life, there is no “one size fits all” approach to life decisions or solutions. To help you age your way, PCOA offers services and programs that speak to that wide range of needs and preferences. One PCOA program that is particularly in keeping with the OAM 2022 theme is our home sharing program, HomeMatch Pima. What is home sharing? Home sharing involves home owners choosing to share and rent part of their homes with compatible home sharers. For home owners, sharing their homes may be a great way to continue living in their home, to enjoy companionship and to receive additional income through rent. For the home sharer, there is also an opportunity to enjoy companionship along with possible financial savings. There are clearly many benefits associated with home sharing, and this is an option of interest to many, as they can live and thrive in their preferred community. We all know the comfort of taking that special walk in our neighborhood or visiting our favorite grocery stores, pharmacies, or coffee shops. It feels good to be known by “the regulars” in our communities. Connecting with others is how meaning can be found and memories can be made, whether in our neighborhoods or in our homes. The balance of existing and new connections is a special part of our everyday lives. HomeMatch Pima will open at some point in 2022. We continue to develop our program so that it will truly serve and help people. Our home sharing pilot program was made possible through the generous support of the Pima County Board of Supervisors and the City of Tucson. We are grateful for this
