Brig. General (Ret.) George B. Price 1929-

“ PEETE HELPED BRING THE FRATERNITY TO THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY OF LAKE COUNTY, IL AS A CHARTER MEMBER OF THE WAUKEGAN (IL) ALUMNI CHAPTER. ”

During his high school years, Educator John W. Yarbrough (Memphis (TN) Alumni 1957) became a mentor to Peete. Yarbrough encouraged the young Peete to attend Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN where Peete earned a BS degree in zoology and graduated with honors. After marrying the former Ethel Harper in 1971, Peete enlisted in the United States Marines Corps and received an Honorable Discharge. Peete began his professional career as a biology teacher at Zion-Benton Township High School in Zion, IL. During this time, Peete earned a masters in public admin- istration from Roosevelt University. In 2007, Peete retired after thirty-four years as an educator win- ning numerous awards and honors. A Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Peete helped bring the Fraternity to the African American commu- nity of Lake County, IL as a charter member of the

Waukegan (IL) Alumni Chapter. Peete was a longtime supporter of the chapter’s Guide Right Pro- gram and was a member of the chapter’s scholarship program. One of William’s most fond memories was when he was recognized for being a member for fifty years. During his ceremony of recognition, Peete’s son Whalen (Kappa Phi 1999) pinned his 50-year’s pin on him. Peete was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Wauke- gan were he dutifully served Christ as a Deacon and subsequently as the chairperson of the Board of Deacons for over thir- ty-three years. He also served in various ministries around the church; Sunday School, Leadership Train- ing, Bible Study, the Soup Kitchen, and the Men’s

Ministry, among other things.

He was an active member in the community and his activities included: coaching Little League Baseball and Basketball for the Wauke- gan (IL) Park District. As head baseball coach, Peete’s team received honorable recognition by the Wauke- gan City Council. Peete was also the Waukegan High School sophomore-level basketball coach. Brother William A. Peete leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Ethel Harper Peete; three children, Emarcia Peete, Whalen (Susa) Peete (Kappa Phi 1999), and Wesley (Mary) Peete, granddaughter Emily Grace Peete; sister, Viola (John) Degraffereid, brother, Robert (Linda) Peete (Beta Lambda 1965); a host of relatives and friends. ♦

G eorge B. Price, was born on August 28, 1929, in Laurel, MS. He entered the Chapter Invisible on November 17, 2024, at the age of 95. He was duly initiated in 1948 at the South Carolina State Brigadier General, U.S. Army (Retired), University Chapter, the Alpha Lambda of Kappa Alpha Psi®. In 1951, General Price graduated from South Carolina State College
