The Prom She Never Had
Dream Come TRUE
Dream Come TRUE brings a lifelong wish to life for Betty Mueller at Cedarhurst of Tesson Heights.
For as long as she can remember, Betty Mueller has loved music, dancing, and the glamour of old Hollywood. Born in Calhoun, Georgia, Betty spent much of her childhood moving from town to town as her father worked for the railroad. Through every chapter of life, one thing remained constant: her love of dancing. As a young girl, Betty admired the elegant dresses worn by movie stars of the 1950s and dreamed of one day wearing a gown just like theirs. While she never had the opportunity to attend a traditional high school prom, she made the most of every chance to dance, even winning a twist contest along the way. Today, she still enjoys dancing whenever she hears her favorite artists, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson. Through Cedarhurst’s Dream Come TRUE program, Betty’s wish to feel like a 1950s movie star became a reality. On April 17, Cedarhurst of Tesson Heights transformed its community into a prom celebration complete with
decorations, music, and a red- carpet entrance. “Prom seemed like the perfect opportunity to make her feel like the movie star of her dream,” said Life Enrichment Director Debra Leland. With help from her daughter, Theresa Kannawarf, and the Cedarhurst team, Betty was treated to a full makeover experience. She wore a beautiful blue dress — her favorite color — along with pearls, gloves, a hat, and a corsage. It was also the first time she ever had her makeup professionally done. When Betty arrived at prom, she was the star of the evening. Surrounded by friends, music, and plenty of dancing, she embraced every moment. One fellow resident summed it up perfectly, telling her, “Honey, you still got it.” For Betty, the evening was more than a dance. It was the chance to live out a lifelong dream and create a memory she and her family will treasure for years to come.
