Healing Through the Hardest Moments Small Acts of Self-Care During Injury Recovery

MALLOY LAW OFFICES, LLC

Personal injury cases tend to arrive at the worst possible moments. One day, life feels normal, and the next it’s filled with doctor appointments, insurance calls, paperwork, and a level of stress you never asked for. When you’re focused on healing and protecting your future, it’s easy to forget about yourself as a person, trying to get through a difficult chapter. Valentine’s Day is typically all about romance, but when you think about it, it focuses largely on care and attention. While that care is usually directed outward, this time of year can also be a reminder to turn some of that energy inward. Especially when you’re navigating a personal injury claim, self-care is necessary. When you’re injured, your world can shrink. Pain dictates your schedule, recovery feels slow, and stress

Protecting your mental space enables you to focus on healing, rather than managing other people’s expectations. Movement, when approved by your doctor, can also play a role in feeling better, not just physically, but emotionally. You don’t have to push yourself too hard or “power through” pain. It might be as simple as a short walk, light stretching, or physical therapy exercises done with intention. Movement can remind you that progress, even small progress, is still progress. Self-care also includes acknowledging how difficult this is. Many clients feel pressure to stay positive or minimize their experiences. But frustration, fear, anger, and sadness are normal responses to injury and uncertainty. Talking to someone you trust, journaling, or even just naming those emotions can be a release. You don’t have to be strong every moment to be resilient overall. Valentine’s Day is often filled with messages about lavish things, but healing is built on consistency. Making yourself a nourishing meal, spending time with someone who makes you laugh, and taking an hour away from case- related stress all add up. They remind you that life is still happening alongside recovery. Most importantly, remember that taking care of yourself supports your case. When you feel more grounded, rested, and supported, you’re better equipped to make decisions and move forward. Your well-being matters beyond any outcome. This Valentine’s Day, consider reframing the holiday, not as something you’re missing out on, but as a moment to check in with yourself. Healing is rarely linear, and there will be hard days, but small, consistent acts of care can help carry you through them.

becomes background noise. In those moments, self-care doesn’t have to mean spa days or dramatic lifestyle changes. In fact, the most effective forms of self-care during recovery are often small, practical choices that help you feel like yourself again. One of the easiest things you can do is give yourself permission to rest without guilt. Healing takes energy, and pushing through exhaustion can slow progress rather than speed it up. Remember, rest isn’t being lazy! It’s part of recovery. Whether that means taking a short nap, going to bed earlier, or sitting down when your body tells you to. Listening to yourself matters! Another overlooked form of self-care is setting boundaries. During a personal injury case, everyone seems to ask for something: updates, explanations, and decisions. It’s okay to limit conversations that drain you or to let calls go to voicemail.

You deserve compassion, patience, and care, especially from yourself!

Finding Awe in the Ordinary The Everyday Magic That Heals Us

In a world that races ahead at full speed, it’s easy to lose sight of wonder. We rush through our routines, scrolling, planning, and worrying, and rarely pause just to feel. But when we do stop long enough to notice the world’s quiet beauty, something remarkable happens: We experience awe. This emotion, which is part surprise, part reverence, can shift our perspective, soothe our nervous system, and reconnect us with something larger than ourselves. Discover the magic of feeling awe. When we are captivated with awe, time seems to slow. Our thoughts, usually centered on our own problems and plans, suddenly expand to encompass the broader picture, which helps dissolve stress and boosts emotional well-being. Research indicates that awe can reduce inflammation, lower heart rate, and even promote compassion. It’s as if our minds momentarily

reboot and remind us that life is vast and full of meaning beyond our daily concerns.

Standing beneath a star-filled sky or witnessing a child’s laughter can make us feel small, but not in a diminishing way. Instead, we sense our place in life. That feeling of belonging and connectedness nourishes emotional balance and strengthens our resilience. Encounter awe in everyday moments. You don’t need to climb a mountain or visit a famous landmark to experience awe. It’s waiting in the subtle corners of your day: the way sunlight dances on a wall, the sound of rain tapping on the roof, or how someone’s kindness catches you off guard. Try taking a few minutes each day to slow down and look around. Step outside, watch the clouds, or listen to a piece of music

that stirs you. When you allow awe to find you, you begin to reconnect with presence, gratitude, and joy. Awe heals because it reminds us that we’re part of something larger and endlessly unfolding. In moments of difficulty, wonder offers perspective and hope. It grounds us, opens our hearts, and helps us see clearly beyond fear or fatigue. So, pause today. Let a moment of awe find you and allow it to do its quiet, powerful work.

Dangerous Speeding Comes at a Higher Cost Under Maryland’s New Law

What to Do if You’re Hit By A Speeding Driver

What the Sergeant Patrick Kepp Act Changes

Laws are not static; they evolve in response to real-world events, public safety concerns, and the needs of the people they serve. When new legislation is passed, it often reflects a broader effort to address emerging risks and prevent future harm. Let’s take a closer look at Maryland’s Sergeant Patrick Kepp Act and how it increases penalties for dangerous speeding behavior across the state. The Story Behind the Law The law is named for Montgomery County Police Sergeant Patrick Kepp, who was critically injured during a traffic stop on Interstate 270 in October 2023. While attempting to stop a driver traveling over 100 mph, Sgt. Kepp was struck and suffered injuries that resulted in the loss of both legs. The driver, who was unlicensed and on probation, was later convicted on multiple charges and sentenced to 22 years in prison. Sgt. Kepp returned to duty in November 2024 and continues his recovery.

In response to growing concerns about reckless driving, Maryland enacted the Sergeant Patrick Kepp Act to increase penalties for extreme speeding. Effective as of Oct. 1, 2025, drivers traveling 16 mph or more over the speed limit will face higher fines, while the $40 fine for 12–15 mph over remains unchanged.

If you are involved in a collision with a speeding driver, your health and safety should be your immediate priority. Call 911 immediately if anyone is injured, and seek medical evaluation as soon as possible, even if your injuries seem minor at first. After addressing your medical needs, take steps to document the accident scene. Exchange insurance and contact information with the other driver, photograph vehicle damage and roadway conditions, and gather witness statements if possible. Traffic cameras or nearby surveillance footage may also play a critical role in establishing that excessive speed contributed to the crash. For more information on the Sergeant Patrick Kepp Act and how Malloy Law can help, scan the QR code above!

The updated fine schedule includes:

16–19 mph over the speed limit: $70 20–29 mph over the speed limit: $120 30–39 mph over the speed limit: $230 40 mph or more over the speed limit: $425

These enhanced penalties are intended to deter extreme speeding and reduce the risk of severe or fatal crashes on Maryland roadways.

COOK THE WORLD A Global Dinner Adventure Awaits

Are you tired of the same spaghetti night or pizza delivery? It’s time to shake things up and turn dinner into a family adventure. Instead of hopping on a plane, grab your aprons and “travel” the world through food. Each week, choose a country, find its most famous dish, and cook it together, no passports required! Step 1: Choose your destination. Begin your journey by selecting a country that excites everyone. Maybe your kids are obsessed with anime (hello, Japan!) or you’ve been craving something spicy from Mexico. Every culture has a dish that tells a story, like Italy’s cheesy lasagna, India’s vibrant butter chicken, and Greece’s fresh tzatziki and gyros. Choose one that feels doable and prepare to embark on a new flavor adventure. Step 2: Cook up some fun. Now it’s time to bring the world to your kitchen. Gather your ingredients, play music from the country you’re exploring, and assign roles. One person can chop, someone can stir, and someone else can handle the playlist (very

important). Kids love getting hands-on, and it’s an excellent way to help them learn about teamwork, creativity, and

patience. Talk about where the dish comes from, what people might traditionally serve with it, or how it’s eaten in that culture. Before you know it, your kitchen will smell like another part of the world. Step 3: Eat, share, and celebrate. When the food hits the table, make it special. Light a candle, add a little decoration, and let loose. Take that first bite together and talk about the flavors. What’s new, what’s surprising, and what’s delicious? Create a “family food passport” where you write down the country, the dish, and everyone’s rating or favorite moment. It’s a great way to remember your culinary travels. Step 4: Keep the journey going. Once you start, it’s hard to stop! Turn this into a weekly or monthly family ritual. Each dish brings a new story, a new skill, or a fresh memory. You’ll end up with full bellies and a collection of shared experiences that span the globe.

The Stats and Spectacle Behind the Big Game

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY WHERE FOOTBALL, COMMERCIALS, AND SNACKS COLLIDE

Teams That Made History When it comes to championship dominance, the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers sit at the top of the leaderboard, each with six Super Bowl victories. However, no player is larger than Tom Brady, whose seven Super Bowl rings exceed the total wins of any single franchise. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills hold one of the most bittersweet records in sports history, reaching four straight Super Bowls in the early 1990s … only to lose all four! Commercials That Steal the Spotlight For many viewers, the commercials are just as important as the game itself. A 30-second Super Bowl ad now costs more than $7 million, hundreds of thousands of dollars per second. And brands happily pay the price for access to an audience of over 100 million viewers. Iconic ads, like Apple’s “1984,” Budweiser’s Clydesdales, and

Once a year, the Super Bowl takes over living rooms, sports bars, and social feeds across the country. It’s the one event where die-hard football fans, casual viewers, and commercial critics all gather for the same reason: Something big is about to happen. From legendary teams to iconic ads and record-breaking snacks, the Super Bowl has built a reputation as the ultimate American spectacle.

Doritos’ humor-packed campaigns, have become cultural milestones remembered long after the final score. A Ratings Powerhouse The Super Bowl consistently ranks as the most-watched television broadcast in the U.S. every year. Some editions have attracted more than 115 million viewers, meaning nearly one-third of the country is watching the same thing at the same time. Few events command that level of attention. The Second-Largest Eating Day of the Year Super Bowl Sunday is also a marathon for munching. Americans devour an estimated 1.4 billion chicken wings during the game. Add mountains of pizza, chips, and guacamole, and it becomes the second-biggest food day of the year, right behind Thanksgiving.
