stunning paint. The body needed a lot of work and Donnie Bright installed some metal patches, straightened all the sheetmetal, and laid down the PPG Chameleon and the white gold top. All the stock trim was restored and the bumpers were chromed and fit tight to the body. Mick filled the interior with a ’63 Mercury Monterey dash, Classic Instruments, a tilt column topped with a Con2r steering wheel, Vintage Air, and a center console. Paul Atkins then covered the rear seat and ’64 Galaxy XL500 front bucket seats in rust colored leather, and Marc Byer (who helped with the whole build) wired everything together.

What I love about seeing a car that has obvi- ously racked up the miles is that I know the rodder has invested the time in his or her car. It takes work to get the car ready to run, fix what breaks so it doesn’t break again, and finally all the time we spend driving our dreams is promoting rod- ding in the best way possible. When people see a sweet Chameleon Green ’61 rolling down the highway, they want to do it too. The smiles come through the heat, the cold, the wind and even the rain. Basically, we know the rock-chipped rodder invests their spare time cruising roads across the USA just like we do. FEBRUARY 2026 65
