Scripture:

Psalm147:11

A t age 16 my parents gave me a ‘68 Camaro and it was the first love of my life. I literally washed it every day, even though the paint was already beginning to get lighter and fad- ing quickly. During this time a parking lot incident put a little extra insurance money in my pocket to put towards a new paint job. The idea of getting a new paint job seemed easy to me, just scuff and paint the thing and we could move on. I didn’t see what the big deal was, but my dad explained to me that if I wanted a great paint job it would take some time. However, if I wanted a junkie paint job it could be done quick- ly. I had to wrestle with whether I wanted to spend three months with no car or get a junkie paint job and have it back within a week. Thanks to the wisdom of my dad, I chose a good paint job. His goal was to teach me the importance of sacrificing in the short run to get something better in the long run. I still remember when it was complet- ed how awesome it looked. Truly, it was a perfect paint job, and everyone marveled at the quality of it. Once I got it back, it seemed like the time sacrificed waiting for it to be painted was certainly worth the weight car- ried for something so perfect. In our faith journey, 1 Peter 3 says: “Jesus Christ is our Living

Hope. He gives us salvation when we call upon him and that is the greatest gift of all.” Sadly, sometimes we get too impatient when we start our journey with God because he doesn’t move at our pace, and some lose hope. Perhaps we think that because he isn’t answering all our prayers immediately, he has forgotten us or that he doesn’t love us the same way as other people. But I want to say that’s just not true. What I’ve found in my life is that when God is slow and answer- ing my prayers, he is doing a masterpiece that is worth wait- ing for. One that takes sacrifice in the short run as he builds our character and our faith so that in the long run, it can be perfected in God’s love and have the great- est impact on my life. Psalm147:11 tells us: “the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.” The Lord wants to delight in us. He wants to give us the best paint job and the best life on this earth, but that doesn’t mean it’s without sacrifice, difficulty, or trials. So if you are in that process, don’t give up hope. Remember Jesus Christ is our Living Hope and if it’s taking a while to see our prayers answered, it just might be that he is working on a masterpiece for us. That is worth the wait, so let us not give up hope.
