Dear Cattlemen, It is a pleasure to welcome you to our upcoming Coleman Angus Annual Performance-Tested Bull Sale. Bull sale time is one of our favorite times of the year. This year, we are excited again to have the bull sale at our ranch. We look forward to seeing all our customers and friends along with meeting new ones and the opportunity to get to know you and learn more about your operations. Our program is totally committed to the commercial cowman, and every mating we make is designed to produce bulls that will work for you and make your ranch profitable. As you study the data and EPD’s in this book, you can see that we are committed to raising cattle that are balanced in all aspects, whether it is on paper, or phenotypically. This is the strongest, most consistent set of bulls we have ever raised and, from Lot 1 all the way to Lot 116, we have the upmost confidence that they will make you profitable. They have been an excellent set to see develop, be around, and a real pleasure to raise. These bulls are designed with extra thickness, fleshing ability, length, and will keep their condition while in the breeding pasture. They are the “Cowboy Kind” and have been developed on a high-roughage ration for moderate gain. It is our goal to have these bulls remain sound, problem-free, and to become long-term genetic contributors to the herds they go into. The bulls are never pushed hard, we feed them to gain 3 lbs. per day. The quickest way to ruin a bull is to feed it too much. They may look good on sale day, but it is just a matter of time before their feet and legs start going bad. It has been great to get data back from our customers on their calves in the feedlots and on the rail; consistently, calves sired by our bulls have been the most profitable set of calves in those feedlots and on the rail. We know that our bulls will leave a top set of replacement females and it is especially nice to hear that they will be at the top end in all segments of our industry. We have had many customers tell us about the extra longevity they are getting out of their Coleman bulls--this puts money in their pockets. As you flip through this book, you will note that we hit multiple times on one key component we feel very strongly about, “It All Starts with the Mother Cow.” We sort our cows hard for economically important traits such as longevity, fertility, efficiency, fleshing ability, disposition, udder quality, feet, and structural soundness. We know that you have a lot of choices when you purchase bulls but who are the mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers that are behind these bulls? We know that if you are keeping replacement females then it is very vital that you look at the mothers of the bulls. This year, we tried to put photos of the mothers of each bull selling at the bottom of each page to feature the depth and generations of the highly productive females backing the bull selling, and we always welcome anyone to come and see the cows that these bulls are out of. We offer a free nationwide delivery on all the bulls selling along with a $100 discount per bull if you pick up on sale day. Haul your neighbor’s bulls home and get a $100/head discount on them too. We will start delivering the bulls in the middle of March. We also offer a First Breeding Season Guarantee on the bulls. You do not need to purchase insurance on them, just let us know if there is a problem of any kind and we will take care of it. We feel we have the best guarantee in the business as our belief is simply to treat you the same way that we would want to be treated. Make sure and visit with us if you are not aware of our guarantee. We also offer a volume discount on the bulls: 5% off on five bulls bought, 6% off on six, and up to 10% on ten or more bulls bought. Videos of the bulls will be available on our website: www.colemanangus.com or you can go to our YouTube channel www. youtube.com/user/colemanangusranch. The sale will be live on DV Auction. Information and updates will be available on our website closer to sale time, along with a sale order. Check us out on social media also. Please feel free to reach out to any of us with any questions. We look forward to seeing you all on sale day!

% The Meaning & History Behind Our Brand % W hen we established Coleman Angus in 1996, we wanted to choose a brand that had meaning. A brand that represented us, who we were, what our goals were, and what we wanted to accomplish: 100% dedication, 100% customer service, 100% commitment to our ranch, 100% commitment to the land. A “brand” is a mark of the man and encompasses that proud moment when a man stamps his identity on the hide. A brand declares ownership, labels a man’s integrity, tags him with responsibility, and totals his worth. But a man’s brand is about more than just a symbol of ownership, it is also a representation of the people behind it. Brands gain a life of their own. Ranches become known by their brand and the symbols become linked to the land on which the cattle are raised. Brands become ingrained in the people. People become ingrained in the ranches and in the land; they are inseparable. A brand conveys a promise. There is sentimental attachment to the brand that a ranch decides on, and we are loyal to what it means to us. It is personal. Many stories are attached to a brand, not because of the mark itself but because of the people, land, and memories tied to it. A brand also becomes the image and personality of our product and service. Every brand is a man’s own special mark, our identity as ranchers. Our chosen brand stamps our commitment with quality, passion, loyalty, dedication, and service. Our passion lies in making an impact and a difference, providing a stewardship, exceeding expectations, and delivering a brand that is monumental to your program as well. % is Coleman Angus.

COLEMAN ANGUS – WHERE MATERNAL MATTERS

A t Coleman Angus, maternal matters. Our philosophy in breeding Angus cattle has always been to focus on the mother cow. The mother cow makes the difference in everything we do in this industry. The Coleman Angus program was built the old-fashioned way, in the pasture where maternal is measured by production records, calving intervals, udder quality, mature size, longevity, fertility, and Pathfinder* status. We don’t believe in throwing computer-generated numbers out there to confuse or mislead you, we believe in “real world” data. We breed our cows to raise big calves who rebreed on time and to do this for years. We place emphasis on these desired traits for both seedstock and commercial cattlemen, and these desired traits continue to be a part of the Coleman Angus Maternal Plus Program. Our program places emphasis on the $M Index, an index for commercial cattlemen and breeders alike. The $M Index incorporates the following traits and data collected at Coleman Angus: CED, BW, WW, CEM, Milk, MW, Docility, Heifer Pregnancy, Foot Scores (both claw and angle foot scores). If you sell your cattle at weaning or retain heifers, we recommend that you take a look at the $M Index on this set of bulls.

MATERNAL WEANED CALF VALUE ($M) – THE REAL $ VALUE $M is the most maternally focused selection index currently available to Angus members and commercial users of Angus genetics. $M, expressed in dollars per head, aims to predict profitability differences in progeny due to genetics from conception to weaning. $M places greater emphasis on the cost side of commercial cow calf production than any other tool available in the past. Increased selection pressure on $M aims to decrease overall mature cow size while maintaining weaning weights consistent with today’s production.

“Spanning across two decades representing the Coleman Family in various capacities, it’s my pleasure to share my vantage point of their embodiment of the values that have shaped the American West - it’s about faith, family, integrity, determination and commitment. Their formula hasn’t been overly complex, take care of customers, take care of your cow herd and the rest takes care of itself. From the beginning, product wise with Larry, Dee and company, it’s always been that it starts with the “cow” and it still holds true today. Along the journey, they’ve done a great job listening to their customers, while maintaining firm to their core breeding philosophy, and have implemented progressive breeding strategies to meet the market call. As it relates to customer service, it’s just simply business done right. It’s one of the few places left in today’s world where a handshake and one’s word still holds value.” - Kiley J. McKinna MC Marketing Management

YOU CAN BUY BULLS ANYWHERE

W e believe that it all starts with the mother cow. There is a big difference between a good cow and a great cow. A great breeding bull is known because they “stamp” their calves. It’s the same with great cow; she should be able to “stamp” her calves regardless of who the sire is. They calve early each year, bring in a big calf at weaning, gentle with beautiful udders. Then you see that their daughters are doing the same thing. These are the ones that make a ranch profitable. We have seen a tremendous increase in quality and consistency of our cowherd. This is the result from the large groups of females that are half, three quarter, and full sisters. Consistency is one of the most profitable traits that makes the difference between a good calf crop and a great one.

“The Coleman cow is much like a factory, balancing multiple traits and combining them into a proven, highly maternal package. I use Coleman bulls because of the factories behind them. Built for longevity, backed by a legacy.” - Kyle Gillooly, Predestined Cattle Co., Wadley, Georgia

AT COLEMAN ANGUS, WE BELIEVE IT ALL STARTS WITH THE “MOTHER COW”

S ince the very beginning, here at Coleman Angus, we have been extremely focused on the Mother Cow, and that belief has never wavered. We know that you can buy your bulls from a lot of different operations, but we feel it is important for you to study the Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother of each bull. At Coleman Angus, we have stacked generations of highly proven females who have stood the test of time. In every one of our bull ads and catalogs, we have incorporated that same slogan, and this year have decided to expand on that theme by giving our sale book a different look that has never been done before. At the bottom of each lot in our bull catalog, we have included the photo of every dam, granddam, third dam, fourth dam, fifth dam, etc., that runs four to six generations deep on each bull and backed each featured animal with proven, predictable genetics. When you purchase Coleman Angus bulls, you are getting a product of generation after generation of great mothers. Our cows at Coleman Angus are backed by all the components that the American Angus Association has provided us with, which include AHIR and Maternal Plus, and we have been a member of this program since it started. Coleman Angus has been recognized by the Angus Association as a Data Driven program and rewarded with a plaque for voluntary data submitted to the Association. The data that we submit on every cow here is below, along with additional data on every bull that will be in the bull sale. This unwavering focus on the Mother Cow from day one at Coleman Angus gives you, as seedstock and commercial ranchers, the confidence in purchasing bulls that will work for you and will leave you a tremendous set of Mother Cows for years to come. Every year, every cow here gets scored for the traits below:  Udder Suspension  Mothering Ability  Teat Size and Length  Breeding Information  Disposition  Hair Shed  Foot Score for Claw Set  Weight at Weaning Time  Foot Score for Angle  Weight at Weaning Time  Body Condition Score at Weaning Time

“Coleman Glacier 041 has been a huge success in our herd! Both the bulls and females have topped our sales and have been highly sought after. Their structure design, muscle pattern, and tremendous presence are a few of the extras he brings to the table. He also added growth and breed character to his offspring. Glacier will continue to be a go-to sire for us! We believe in this pedigree as we own a flush sister, Coleman Donna 046, and are seeing very similar results from her progeny as well.” - Jason Upchurch, Ingram Angus, Pulaski, Tennessee

“Glacier could quite possibly be the most complete sire we have ever had the opportunity to work with here. Glacier has the rare ability to sire sons that are in high demand and have worked very well in both the commercial sector of our industry and also in the high-end registered world. In saying that, his daughters are the best part. I really feel like Glacier will go down as one of the very best female-producing sires we have ever had. We have never been more excited about a sire group of females here as the Glaciers. We loved Glacier as a young sire, and my biggest regret is that we did not use him harder as a young sire! We have three flush sisters to Glacier here, all have made Pathfinder, they have excellent udders, very good feet, and bring in some of our biggest calves every year.” - Larry Coleman

TIME WELL SPENT I’ve always felt that the most important key in selecting your bull battery is to spend a day visiting and looking at the cowherd or cowherds where you buy your bulls. If you like the cows and the management of them, that’s where you need to be buying your bulls. It’s pretty simple, bulls produce daughters like their mothers and grandmothers.

“Platinum has been a very aggressive breeding bull in the pasture here with good libido and herd bull presence. His progeny show early sexual maturity; the bulls are masculine and display good crest and top shape, and the heifers are broody and attractive. We used Platinum on first-calf heifers in his second breeding season and got along just fine calving them out.” - Rick Marlett, TK Angus, Wood Lake, Nebraska
