A t Coleman Angus, maternal matters. Our philosophy in breeding Angus cattle has always been to focus on the mother cow. The mother cow makes the difference in everything we do in this industry. The Coleman Angus program was built the old-fashioned way, in the pasture where maternal is measured by production records, calving intervals, udder quality, mature size, longevity, fertility, and Pathfinder* status. We don’t believe in throwing computer-generated numbers out there to confuse or mislead you, we believe in “real world” data. We breed our cows to raise big calves who rebreed on time and to do this for years. We place emphasis on these desired traits for both seedstock and commercial cattlemen, and these desired traits continue to be a part of the Coleman Angus Maternal Plus Program. Our program places emphasis on the $M Index, an index for commercial cattlemen and breeders alike. The $M Index incorporates the following traits and data collected at Coleman Angus: CED, BW, WW, CEM, Milk, MW, Docility, Heifer Pregnancy, Foot Scores (both claw and angle foot scores). If you sell your cattle at weaning or retain heifers, we recommend that you take a look at the $M Index on this set of bulls.
