G OAL

• The goal of the W ork I nternship and S tudent E xperience (WISE) Program is to provide TKS students and visiting university student dependents of KAUST Residents with work experience in a professional setting, aimed to expand their academic, professional, and personal learning

W ORK I NTERNSHIP (WI)

• Open to University Student dependents whose parents are KAUST residents

• Provides opportunities for gaining practical work experience and professional skills while visiting parents and family over the summer period

Student must be enrolling, studying or just completed their studies at a University/ College and visiting parents during the summer

Parent must be a KAUST resident

S TUDENT E XPERIENCE (SE)

• Open to The KAUST School students who will be in Grades 11 or 12 during the 2017-2018 academic year

• Provides an enrichment program which introduces high school students to the professional workplace

• It may also provide the opportunity to explore a function or area of interest that you want to pursue as a field of study in university

• The enrichment will assist you in your university or job applications following your graduation from TKS

Students must be enrolled at The KAUST School entering Gr 11 or 12 in the school year 2017-2018 Parent must be a KAUST resident

By participating in WISE as an intern, you gain unique advantages:  work experience and transferable skills  on the job training and practical experience, by applying methods and theories learned in class  experience a prospective career path and enhance your resume  may prepare you for admission to top universities world wide  develop effective working relationships with world class teams  develop new skills and refine others, as well as knowledge and understanding of working within a professional environment

 gain confidence in your abilities  expand your vision for the future  learn the value of earned money  may fulfill IB Diploma requirements of CAS (Creativity, Action, Service)

P ROGRAM F EATURES

• Internship duration is 4 weeks • A stipend is provided of between US$400 - $1000 depending on educational level • Interns from TKS may waive stipend and use hours to meet CAS requirement • WISE Internship Fair • Online application process • Onboarding and orientation • Workshops and informal discussions to supplement the work experience

A PPLICATION P ROCESS – K EY D ATES

• WISE Internship Fair, Tues Feb 21, 9.00 am – 10.30 am, Hall 2, Building 19 • Online application window opens between Wed Feb 22 – Thurs Mar 9, wisekaust.workable.com • Selection interviews take place between Sun Mar 19 – Thurs Mar 30 • Offers confirmed by Thurs Apr 6 • WISE Program is Sun Jul 16 – Thurs Aug 10 • Note you must be able to attend all four weeks of the WISE program

N EXT S TEPS

• Discuss WISE with your parents • Check online for sample Curriculum Vitae’s or Resumes if you do not have one; attend the Resume Workshop on Tues Feb 7, 9.00 am-10.30 am • Write your covering letter to explain how you will make the most of the WISE Program, what you have achieved so far in your life and what strengths you have • Choose your recommender wisely, those who know you well can make a more effective recommendation • Practice a short introduction (30 seconds) about yourself – this will give you some confidence in the interview process • Conduct mock interviews with your friends! The questions in the WISE Interviews will be about how you will make the most of the program, what your key achievements have been and how you have worked as a team; attend the Interviewing Skills Workshop on Tues Feb 28, 9.00 am-10.30 am
