Guangzhou, China. “African Child Alive is the legacy for Mrs Universe Africa 2019. It was launched during my participation in Mrs Universe Africa 2019. I took it to the Mrs Universe Worlds Pageant Week and presented it as part of the initiative I started in my reign. The primary purpose of ACA is to inspire, empower, speak for the voiceless, and ensure that women and children are heard. “In the love of pageantry that I have, I launched Migethan Pageants in March 2021, it was launched primarily to inspire women of all ages to rise up, fetch their dreams and make them come true. We had our first crowning on the 2nd of October 2021, and this year our pageant journey has already begun and ends in October with our crowning on the 1st of October 2022. For the young women, Migethan Pageants hopes in future to start an educational fund that will assist in providing scholarships for any Skills Development Course of their choice. This will give them a head start in independence as a young woman with a skill.” “I believe that where possible, every African child must be given an opportunity to find themselves and flourish in their chosen career.”

Nesisa Ngwenya is a nurse educator, with a Master’s degree in nursing education. In 2019, she was crowned Mrs Universe Africa. “I am now awaiting my UJ Master’s graduation which will be in October 2022. My last graduation was at UJ in 2018, for the BCur Et Ed Admin Occupational Health and Safety qualification,” she says.

I remember my eldest sister would design and make garments for me to wear in competitions. I have always enjoyed dressing up and being on stage. “When I started tertiary education, I put pageantry aside and focused on my studies. Then I got married and had two handsome little boys. But even as a wife and mother, I’ve always enjoyed looking good and wished I could go back on stage one last time. “When I entered Mrs Universe Africa in 2019, it was because I missed walking on stage. I just wanted to do it one last time. Little did I know that it was the beginning of something big in my life, a great achievement,” she says. Nesisa also writes articles for the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) magazine, her most recent article appearing in the Feb-April edition.
