It’s Where I Can Best Serve My Clients FINANCIAL ARCHITECTS BECAME MY HOME
Greetings, newsletter friends! My name is Christopher, and my area of expertise is within the health arena. Most people I help are turning 65 or older, so I assist them with Medicare, understanding that transition, and what they need to prepare to get the best possible outcome. My goal is to help my clients with their insurance needs to reduce their overall exposure to risk due to uncertain losses. Finance is something I enjoy and am passionate about. If I weren’t, I wouldn’t have been in the financial services industry for over 20 years! At first, I worked in mortgage and real estate, but it wasn’t until 2008 that I started looking into the health insurance field. Most of the people I worked with were self-employed or small-business owners who had to get their own insurance coverage. Many of them were reaching the age of retirement and began asking me to help them with more of their finances. I quickly realized if I wanted to help these people to the best of my abilities, I had to find a new home. They had dire needs.
I knew I wanted to be a part of this team because they were the home I was looking for — they would help me provide the best service possible to clients with health care concerns. So, in 2013, I began working at FAI, and I’ve never looked back. I’m happy I get to call this place my home. I love what I do because there aren’t many people who understand the health care and Medicare side of things, and it can be extremely frustrating and confusing if you don’t have
“Medicare and health insurance can be confusing, so being able to provide insight and clarity to others makes me feel like I’ve done my job right.”
someone to guide you. It’s rewarding and motivating to be a resource to my clients. At first, my clients are lost about where to begin, but they leave our meeting with less stress and more financial power. Easing the stress my clients face will never get old. As Medicare enrollment deadlines are upon us, I would be more than happy to assist you with anything you need. Please don’t hesitate to email me at cbesonen@financialarch.com or call me at 248-482-3600. I would like to thank my family for always supporting me — I couldn’t imagine taking this journey without you. Finally, a huge thank-you to Financial Architects for giving me the opportunity to help others and providing me with a home and team that will always be there to lend a helping hand.
So, I began looking at other companies I could work for to help these people, and it wasn’t until I went to an education class that I met someone who once worked at FAI. We immediately hit it off, and he told me that FAI was hiring. So, I called and began speaking with different people within the business, and I loved what they were doing — I’d never seen or heard anything like it. Navigating the macroeconomic process necessary for our client’s plans to survive under multiple circumstances is incredible.

EYE ON THE BALL Book Reviews With Chris Ball
‘THE BRAIN THAT CHANGES ITSELF’ BY NORMAN DOIDGE
Author Norman Doidge is a world-renowned psychiatrist and psychoanalyst whose work is published in many journals and magazines. In “The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science,” he sets out to investigate neuroplasticity – the concept of the brain’s ability to constantly change and adapt.
Doidge includes stunning stories from the top scientists researching it as well as the people whose lives it has transformed. He shatters notions that many ailments of the brain are incurable and shows just how resilient the human mind can be. The book is a testament to how marvelous the human brain is. We still do not know a great deal about how it works, but it’s responsible for everything you know and love about being human. It contains your memories, brings emotions and sensations, controls movements, and allows you to think and make decisions. We are now learning more about neuroplasticity and its possibilities. Previously, scientists thought of the brain as fixed when fully formed, then deteriorates as we age. But with the rise of neuroplasticity, we now know our brains are capable of more than previously imagined. The book contains fascinating accounts of how people have pushed the limits of their minds. There are examples of people improving musical and athletic performances through visualization. Doidge talks about the benefits of constantly bringing new challenges to our brain despite our age. One example that appealed to me was constantly learning new languages. “The Brain That Changes Itself” highlights the boundless potential of the mind. It really helped me to see our mental abilities in an entirely new light. Despite previous scientific viewpoints and cultural ideas, there is no reason to underestimate our potential to learn and grow as we age.
experience in an outdoor setting, you should check out a haunted corn maze. You’ll hear screams coming from all around to help amp up the fear. It’s also a great way to get some exercise!
HAUNTED HAYRIDE So, what if you want
the best of both worlds? You may want to feel scared without walking through a maze or using a paintball gun. That’s where haunted hayrides come in. On a haunted hayride, you’ll hop aboard a platform that’s being towed by a tractor or truck as they take you through a dark forest and possibly some barns. Performers will be woven throughout to provide scares at the perfect moments. It’s a great way to get the classic Halloween experience without having to walk through a house or maze.
Doidge’s book helps us appreciate our own capabilities and also opens doors so we can imagine our future.

INGREDIENTS
HOW DID YOU GET CONNECTED WITH FAI? An advisor we were using for our mutual funds recommended we consolidate all of our assets under one umbrella and suggested FAI.

• 1/4 tsp nutmeg
• 1/8 tsp ground cloves
• 2 cups cold milk
• 1 cup vanilla
• 15-oz can pumpkin purée
sandwich cookies
WHAT DID YOU DO FOR A LIVING AND WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT RETIREMENT? We both had long careers with General Motors in the engineering part of the car/truck business. We like the luxury of not having the structured lives a full-time job requires. We have more time to devote to our children, grandchildren, traveling, boating, golfing, gardening, and biking. We also like having the time to give back to our community with volunteer activities.
• 8 oz whipped topping
• 1/2 tsp cinnamon
DIRECTIONS
1. In a large bowl, whisk together pudding mix and milk. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir in pumpkin purée, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground cloves.
2. In a blender or food processor, crush vanilla sandwich cookies into crumbs.
3. In small jars or glasses, place cookie crumbs on bottom, then pumpkin mixture, then whipped topping. Repeat these layers twice and end with cookie crumbs.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR SUMMER SO FAR? We have had the opportunity to again socially interface with our family and friends, which has not been the case in the past two years as COVID-19 was such a concern to all of us.
4. Chill until ready to serve!
