Registration styles
How to search Finding your perfect personalised registration on dvlaauction.co.uk has never been simpler. Using our intelligent search system, you can enter the names, words or phrases you would like to see on your new registration, and we will explore the entire site for any relevant matches to your required search. Alternatively you can view the lot list of an auction and use the search bar to look exclusively within that auction.
Our category selections also allow you to search for these within a specific style of registration to suit your vehicle too. To maximise your search result potential, we recommend using words or phrases no longer than four characters in length. If you don’t find your perfect match on the first try, don’t be disheartened, try our advanced search options or play around with your keywords until your are matched with your perfect registration.

Current style registrations
Current style UK registrations were introduced in September 2001. These registrations follow the structure of two letters, followed by a two digit number indicating the period of registration, a space, and then three letters. Current style registrations cannot incorporate the letters I or Q, nor can the letter Z be used in the first two characters.

Dateless registrations
First introduced in 1903, these registrations do not refer to the year that a vehicle was first registered. This means that a dateless registration can be assigned to a vehicle of any age. These registrations typically contain numbers followed by a space and then letters, or vice versa.
