2. Training fund contribution Employers are now required to contribute only 0.25% of the minimum social insured salary per employee to the training fund, with a minimum of 10 Egyptian Pounds (EGP10) and a maximum of EGP30. This replaces the previous law’s requirement of 1% of the net profits. What does this mean for businesses? Employees should ensure that any foreign workers they hire have a work permit from the required local ministries, or they will face legal consequences for non- compliance. Employers in Egypt should take notice of these changes, among others, and update their internal processes to uphold employees’ rights.

What does this mean for businesses? The New Labour Law is already applicable, which means that any eligible male or female employee is henceforth entitled to the new rights provided. Employees who are studying for exams or who work in industrial activities are also entitled to these new rights. Foreign workers & Training Costs 1. Non-national employees A non-national employee is not permitted to work in the country without first obtaining a licence from the relevant ministry and authorisation to enter and reside in the country for work. Employers are prohibited from employing non-nationals without this licence.
