commenting on a White Paper she had written about the future of HR & payroll and AI that she would be presenting next month at an event to be held in Latin America. Naturally, I accepted, and it arrived by return. This was for study at the weekend! Mahira had forwarded some enquiries from prospects, and the news that the American possibility had cooled off for the present. There was also a start-up HR tech company who were asking if I could look at their product and discuss enhancements with them, which was certainly of interest. All new HR tech was worthy of investigating, as it was being created with a different set of business conditions and attitudes, and with a focus on reducing manual admin. AI was being integrated all around, but after talking to a lawyer friend, I was a little bit concerned about conflicts with GDPR.
Another was a UK company in the food business that had grown by acquisition and now was using eight different HR & payroll systems for 1,900 staff! Rationalisation was the aim. This always presented internal cultural issues and needed to be handled with extreme care. I advised Mahira to take on all potentials; she had my diary and would fix that up – just point me at the target! Last thing, I had found three newsletters in my inbox, all from LinkedIn connections I’d subscribed to. I made a mental note to cancel them; there really was little time for reading them, and to be honest, they didn’t always have those ‘nuggets’ that you expected from them. Tomorrow was report writing and quotation requesting. No travelling, at least.
I’d travelled overnight the evening before so as to get a full day in. I’d stayed at the Hotel du Vin, recommended by the college’s Principal, and it was quite fun, a true boutique hotel. I’d been invited to dinner with her and the HR assistant. As they were both vegetarians and Terre à Terre closed on Tuesdays, we’d gone to Food for Friends, which was scrumptious, as always. It was interesting to hear how the college had launched, funded by a group of professional colleagues, and had gone from strength to strength. And, of course, how the HR side of things had eventually become a necessity, initially to conform with legislation, and then to enable the staff to work better.
