involved with managing a number of criti- cal intelligence operations abroad for the Department of National Defence. Hemade the decision to put off undergoing the initial treatment regimen needed for PH until he had made sure that all of his people were home safe once more. Then he threw himself into what he de- clared is now his newmission, “to advocate for this disease (research) and for our pa- tients.” He explained that this includes press- ing senior government for policy changes dealing with health care coverage, to ensure

that people with rare diseases like PH are not left on their own to deal with what can often prove to be expensive treatment options, when there is treatment available. “If we can work towards the legalization of marijuana,” he said, “then we can do a helluva lot better for those people.” He noted that part of the proceeds from the evening’s fundraising efforts will also go to the Pitre family, to aid them with the costs of treatment for Jonathan Pitre, a Rus- sell youth afflicted with a rare disease that makes his skin super-sensitive, to the point

that the slightest touch can cause severe bruising and inflammation. Jonathan Pitre is undergoing a stemcell treatment process which may help him with his condition. “We need to step forward to make sure to take care of our own,” said Kingston. “We have a duty to help out if we can. Life is never about you. Life is about your hand going out to try to latch onto someone and help them.” The Saturday evening gala event at the Russell High School auditorium amassed more than $31,000.
