Tony Abdayem , owner of La Galette French Café & Bakery , has purchased the building to the west of his at Douglas and Seneca . The building, constructed in 1910, is covered in white stucco. Abdayem is working with the city’s façade improvement program to remove the stucco and expose the brick underneath. After the renovations Abdayem will lease the building, though he says it will not be a restaurant due to limited parking.
The Scottish Rite Center sold for the first time since 1898. The Wichita Scottish Rite has owned the historic building since not long after its construction. The deal was brokered by Glenn Cox and Steve Martens of NAI Martens . The building was purchased by an entity call BCG Historic Wichita and will use the center for entertainment and events. The owners are based in Arkansas and have experience with similar historic venues. A small space will be leased back to the Scottish Rite.
